Newbie question about monitor

Should the water level/pump/battery monitor light up with either power source? (12 v or shore power) We recently purchased a 2015 Escape 21, and the previous owner said it only worked on shore power. We are pretty sure she was mistaken but we could use some help troubleshooting what the cause and possible solution might be. Everything else seems to come on fine-lights, etc. Didn't try to check the pump since it is still winterized. It is currently stored in a facility where there is no electricity but we will be bringing it home in a few days to work on it. Battery bank still had 70% charge at the time. Thanks for any advice on where to start! We just moved up from a Casita so never had a monitor system! Anxious to get things in order and start camping. (Also, we grabbed the batteries and are trickle charging them now to top them off-70% seemed low.)

The monitor panel works off the 12V system. If it only works when plugged in then something is wrong.

Smart move to grab the batteries and charge them. Leaving them discharged for prolonged periods will shorten their life. I think Interstates recommends not leaving discharged for more than just a matter of days. Memory is fuzzy on the specifics of that one.
