No Heat
Since it been dropping into the twenties at night I thought I would check for condensation in my trailer. I didn't have and but thought I would fire up the furnace anyway. The batteries were dead in the thermostat so I changed them, but the furnace would not try to fire. I have fire in the stove so I know there is gas. Both tanks have plenty and I tried opening both valves and switched from one tank to the other just in case. The fuse is good and the breaker behind the cover is not tripped. The fan will run if I turn the switch on the thermostat to run. I listen but I don't hear it 'ticking' like it's trying to light. Any ideas?
Signed,
Cold and Clueless

Make sure you have adequate voltage to the furnace and enough propane pressure . Our furnace quit working and those were the first things checked when it was brought in for warranty repair. In the end it turned out to be a bad computer board in the furnace. The sail switch was also considered but ruled out.

Hi: bledsoe3... Make sure your propane tank regulator switch over/lever is pointing either left or right and not straight up. We had the very same experience and it was self induced... by me!!! Alf

Jim
I assume you have the furnace turned on and the thermostat turned up to the desired temperature?
If 12 volt line voltage might be a problem, will the furnace work if you plug the trailer into shore power so that the converter will supply higher voltage?

Hi Jim,
I wonder if the thermostat needs the settings checked after replacing the battery. The manual for it should be in the binder with the others.

I replaced the stock unit with one with a digital display...I just don't remember the model...
Jim,
I think there's a fan only setting on one of the switches on the bottom of the unit. I do remember to get heat both switches need to be toggled inboard (toward the center of the trailer).

If the thermostat kicks on, the fan blows, but you never hear the gas valve open or the ignitor clicking, then my guess would be that there is a gas valve switch behind the furnace grill that got bumped to "off".
Just simply pull the grill off and check. It has happened to me before.

I'll check the manual Paul. The trailer is plugged in and I did check the switch behind the panel. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but the trailer is in the driveway on a part that is not level.

Also try unplugging the circuit board, cleaning the contacts (with something like denatured alcohol), and plugging it back in.
Are there any other symptoms you can supply? I just want to clarify that you don't hear either the gas valve open OR the ignitor? If neither, the sail switch may not be getting closed (just like it sounds, a switch that catches air blown by the motor to ensure it is blowing before it will try to ignite).

It turned out to be the thermostat. I had power everywhere I should, just no ignition. I jumped the wires after removing the thermostat and the furnace fired right up. Thanks for all your input.

Went through the same thing in my pop-up. New thermostat was an easy fix.

I went with that one you mentioned a while ago - seems like a good fit for the trailer, no unneeded bells or whistles.

Thanks Eric. I posted the info about the Hunter more than a year ago. ( http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...html#post19045) Technology changes and I was wondering if someone found another one that should be considered.

I went with the White Rogers non-programmable earlier this year. Kinda wonder why I waited so long. Took all the guesswork out of our settings.

My 2008 17B has a programmable thermostat - on or off, and warmer, or not.
Was that t-stat standard in 2009?
