Not Sure If It's Tar or ???

Prior to washing the 19, we sprayed the front and wheel well areas with bug and tar remover. This got most of the stuff off but some of the spots just will not come off. If I try to scrub them harder, all it does is smear what ever it is around. It looks like some sort of tar but the bug&tar treatment won't touch it.

I want to get these spots off. I'm thing some type of solvent might work but I don't know what that would do to the finish. Anyone experienced this and, if so, what did you use to get that stuff off?

I use old dryer sheets wetted in the wash water, mild scrubbing effect with no damage to the finish. On the off chance you have the same, I have spots in the wheel wells, overspray from when they painted the sprayed on foam black. Those the dryer sheets will not remove.

I do rewax/polish the nose after.

Anyone ever run over fresh highway striping? Did it in Oregon bringing the new trailer home. Started to pass the work crew and had to duck back in as a blind spot emerged. Yellow lane striping paint thrown up on the Yukon's mud flaps and on trailer. Got home and used a graffiti remover which worked pretty good with a good amount of elbow grease.

Doug, as part of your solvent experiments you might want to try Pine-Sol (or some other pine-oil based cleaner).
I use it on surfaces and on my hands to remove plant pitch-based gunk. I use a little bit full strength, then gradually dilute with water to wash off.

If you can get the wheel wells clean, I can only recommend then putting plenty of 303 Aerospace so that you do not have that problem in the future.

Did you try the Turtle Wax bug and tar? Also this leaves a coating to repell subsequent deposits. It worked for me on a similar issue. Also the really fine gelcoat does not go to the inside of my wheel wells. You might then try some Softscrub with bleach.

WD40? Acetone? I'd blot, not smear around too.

Some gasoline on a rag may work, just do not smoke while using.

Solvent or Varsol yes, gasoline NO.
I know someone who use gas to clean, the pain and suffering he went through is not worth it. NEVER use gasoline to clean anything, just use it in your gas tank of your tow vehicle to go camping.

Excellent advise. The consequences can be extreme and disfiguring if you survive the flash.

He lit a match,
To check the tank,
And now,
They call him,
Skin-less Frank.
