Optional exterior fan option on refrigerator

There is a on/off switch in the compartment, once "on" is it thermostatically controlled and what temperature does it turn on?
Exterior Fridge Fan$175.00

Yes sir, thermostat once on. The ole texas fridge fan. Ambient outdoor was 80 out and mine was running. Its loud so an evening like that , with all campsites having the ac off, ppl using screen doors, I turned mine off, I was the only rv with the noticable buzzing noise. I think the next site might hear mine. But in the heat of summer, I will be glad to have it when I want ice cubes out of the freezer. Everyones ac going full bore noise wont be an issue. A silent noctua computer case fan would wish some day.

I finally received the installation manual for the Dometic3108705.751 optional fan for the single door Americana model. The set point turns the fan on at ambient temperature above 105F and the off at 90F with a 10 degree variant- thus 80-100F is the off range. Thus turning that switch on when the temperatures will be above 80 F set point should allow the fan to cycle on/off as needed.

Thanks

It must have quite the wide variation. When we were in Washington with the temps in the 50's ours was coming on. I could not tell, my wife apparently can hear it and says it is a high pitch whine. So after investigating what was whining I found the fan up in the refrigerator flue spinning away. I turned it off and will turn it on when its warmer out. I may see if I can isolate the fan mounting so it does not transmit to the walls.

Ok...so total newbie question here....I ordered the exterior fridge fan for my 17B which I got a month or so ago. How can I actually tell I have this option installed? It's not near hot enough for the fan to come on here in Seattle....Thanks!

If it's the $175 option fan you're talking about, and it's on your build sheet, I would assume you can rest assured it's back there. I don't know exactly where they install it, but it's probably up high where you can't see from the exterior access panel. Short of pulling the fridge forward a bit into the interior, I don't know how you'd verify it. Perhaps other owners with this option can chime in. Is there maybe some wiring visible that would indicate it's installed?

Yes, it's the $175 option and is on my build sheet. Not that I don't think Escape installed it....just that it's the only option I can't see to verify. Didn't occur to me to ask at my orientation.

Not sure if I recall correctly or not, but wasn't that fan option supposed to have a switch on the interior to turn the fan on/off?

I thought it was thermostatically controlled. If there's a switch, that would be easy to verify.

There is a switch, remove your lower exterior refrigerator vent and you will see the switch inside the compartment, look in the picture and you can see the bottom labeled "Fan switch" ....

Thanks Jim....I looked last night before I emailed and didn't see a fan switch then again I was just glancing around with nothing specific in mind. I'll look again this evening. Hoping it's there and I just missed it.

Bummer...no switch. I have the 4cu ft fridge...how much will it help anyway? Assuming the fridge needs to be pulled to install?

Contact Escape. Yours may be different. If it's determined that it wasn't installed but you paid for it, they'll make it right.

Yes, I sent them an email asking about the install, etc. I have not doubt they'll make good if it isn't there.

Called Escape...turns out they had four trailers where they had to order the 4cu ft refrigerators with the fans installed at the factory vs Escape installing them as an aftermarket add-on. So the external fan is on my fridge just without a switch. It's auto-controlled by a heat sensor.

That's interesting. Did they send you one of the new warning labels telling you to turn it off while you were driving? In either case, thanks for asking the question - I was trying to figure out where that switch was and Jim's answer led me right to it.

Haven't heard a word from Escape about the warning labels. My outside fridge fan turns on/off by itself. Not something I like but is what it is for now. And I have the manual awning so not to worried about that warning label.
