Proflex
Has anyone had any luck removing Proflex?, the product on my 2014 is rock hard and cracked.
One of the LED tail lights has a problem and I need to remove it.
A related question, does anyone have a source for a replacement led assembly?
I'm dropping ETI the same questions.

Mineral spirits and a plastic caulk removal tool or plastic scraper. Give the mineral spirits time to soften the material, and you may need to do it more than once. Old Pro Flex can be very hard, and hard to remove.

I too scrape as much as possible off. I like to use a real sharp chisel for the first pass, keeping the tip just off the surface. I will then use a plastic or dull metal scraper to get as much of the remaining caulk off. I find acetone one of the best solvents to remove Proflex and butyl caulk, it will not hurt the gelcoat.

Are you saying we can expect spring, Bob? It sure doesn't seem like that around here.
I wanna go back to Arizona.

Don't temp me. I love winter, but this is not winter we are having, it is just miserable, cold weather.

I hear you Jim. As soon as we got to the east side of Tennessee we hit cold, rain, and hail. We talked about turning around.
Not bad at home, the crocuses are up, snows just about gone, 50's-60's. Just need some dry weather so I can start on the trailer.

The 16" long tail light's is a Bargman 47 54 001, Stop/ tail/ turn light. The upper center light only has two wires connected. The red wire is just stuffed under the headliner so no need to dig about looking for the third connection. The lights are just over $30 USD. Available at Amazon, O Rielly's or other trailer supply stores.

We drove home in miserable snowy weather, then got some really nice warm weather, then snow, then a bit of warm, then more snow. Today's forecast is for cold and more snow, then nicer by next weekend. 'tis springtime in Alberta.
The crocuses here will not be up for a month yet.

Yup I found it to be the same one after inspecting the light.

Good info
While the left and right lamps of the Bargman #54 Series would logically be this 47-54-001 LED Narrow Taillight #54 Series, the centre lamp should be the 47-54-002 LED ID Light Bar w/ Reflex Lens. ID bars must have three separate lit areas, rather than being entirely lit like the stop/turn/tail lamps. Since it has no other functions, the ID bar presumably has only two wires.
As Bargman explains in the product FAQ,
Quote:
What is an ID Bar, and can one be used as a multi-function Stop/Tail/Turn as well?
An ID Bar is an Identification Bar. It consists of 3 lights and is required in order to identify the rear center location on over 80" vehicles. They May Not be used as Multi-Function Lights.
|
eTrailer does not appear to sell the ID bar (47-54-002), but many other suppliers do. eTrailer does list lots of ID bars, but not one to match the Bargman #54 series.

Brian is correct for center upper ID light should be the HID47-54-002 and it only sells for about $12. I had ordered two 002 but the vendor had listed them as just tail lights which is incorrect. I had called ETI and they gave me the 001 number and that is what they had installed on my trailer. Now after checking, the 002 only has three bright lights installed in it. The 001 has 11 lights installed. The outer and center glow brightly the other infield lights glow dimly just as the other tail lights. My issue was some of the infield dim light were constantly lit in the bright mode. With the 001 the center upper light matches the other four tail lights when not braking or turning, the 002 only has the three bright ID lights lit. I am going to remove the 001 and install the 002 in its place and save the $32. 001 as a spare for the turn lights. Good catch Brian. (Got my 002 lights on Ebay.)

I replaced the 001 top rear center light with an 002 light. At dusk it was really not much difference. The 001 lights had the little field lights barely glowing. The 002 with only the three bright lights lit up the reflector almost as bright. The 002 is about 1/2 the cost as the 001. So if replacing the center upper rear light The Bargman 47 54 002 light would be the light to use because of function and cost.

I'm confused, I have 3 center lights on top and 2 of the larger lights on bottom and 2 more small lights on top that operate with the bottom lights. Any pictures to show which lights you are talking about would be helpful....

You have a new body trailer Jim, they may differ from the older units. On my 2014 old body style trailer all 5 rear lights look the same however the upper center one works differently from the other 4, as in no turn signal. Hence 2 different part #s.

okay, my 2014 21' had 5 of the wide lights, 2 on bottom and 3 on top, can't remember if the top 3 operated differently?

I certainly hope they did! The centre lamp on top should produce light from three distinct spots (not along the whole length), because its function is to be a "wide vehicle identification group" of three lights - that's what "ID lamp" means. It is to be lit with the tail and clearance lamps (which means always on with the headlights, not changing with turn signals or braking, and never bright like a brake light); that's very different from a stop/turn/tail lamp. The lower lamps operate as combined stop/turn/tail lamp, and the upper ones in the corners can be either just clearance lights or (as Escape is now doing) stop/turn/tail lamps.
