Propane hook-up.

Has anyone utilized their propane hook-up with a barbecue that ordinarily uses the small screw-on (16 oz.) propane bottles? I have an older Weber "Go Anywhere" portable one and need to know what kind of tubing and connectors that I need to make it work. Since I opted for that option, I'd like to make it work, but I've gleaned that there is something about a pressure differential that might make problems. As you may have guessed, I've not tried anything yet.

Re: Propane hook-up.

We don't have the propane hook up, but we do use our Weber Baby Q with a 20 pound propane tank, but hooking it up with this hose:

Re: Propane hook-up.

There are many issues doing this. A current discussion is going on at the fiberglassRV forum, here is a link to the topic.

Re: Propane hook-up.

The problem is there is a regulator at the tank and there is another regulator on the Baby Q and most other portable BBQs. That's one too many regulators. You can get a BBQ without a regulator, but I don't know where, since I gave up on this idea long ago.

I like my Weber to remain portable, which means I use a 10 lb. tank. I don't have to trip over a long hose and I can put the Q anywhere out of the wind. I keep a couple one lb. disposable tanks as backup.

Re: Propane hook-up.

Sandra, any BBQ or propane device that has a regulator on the hose can easily be used. You would just need to go into a place like a BBQ store and get a hose with a quick coupler to fit the trailer connection that thread right onto the inlet of the BBQ, replacing the hose you have. Many stoves and BBQ's have a regulator mounted on them, and many of those can be removed too, if you know what you are doing.

I have been just using a tee off the bottles ahead of the regulator and fueling my BBQ that way. I have been doing this for years and really prefer it to bringing extra bottles along. It still leaves the BBQ free for use elsewhere with a bottle too.

Re: Propane hook-up.

Which brings to mind....

At the ticket booth for the BC Ferry I was asked how many propane tanks I had. I have two on the trailer tongue and a 10lb. stowed inside. Apparently, that is one tank too many, but she let me through anyway. It's something to think about.

Re: Propane hook-up.

Or find it much cheaper at Wal-Mart:

If your local store does not have it in stock, you can have it shipped directly to the store of your choice for free....

Good to know Glenn, do the small disposable ones count too?

Re: Propane hook-up.

I didn't really want to pursue the topic of propane tanks, but I did give the ticket agent a brochure for the Escape 17.

Re: Propane hook-up.

Thanks for all the help. I'll give that Weber gadget a try. I'll also check the regulator situation.

Re: Propane hook-up.

I carry two 20-lb tanks on the tong. One is ties to the trailer regulator, the other is my standby. I use the standby tank for my grill. I have a short hose and a long hose for the grill. Sometimes I remove the tank from the trailer, sometimes I don't (that's what the long hose is for).

Disadvantage would be the unexpected loss of the furnace in the middle of the night, compared to an auto-tank-switch.

Re: Propane hook-up.

Hi - just saw a hose today at Superstore for $12.99, it is 5ft, and will hook up to the Weber off any 10 or 20lb tank.
