I've done nothing. I figure in a hundred years, when the tray is totally rusted, I'll replace it.
Looking at picture of yours, I'd just use a galvanized washer and machine screw.

I drilled some drain holes at the outer edge of the tray then cleaned , primed and painted the tray . I put a piece of tubing on the bottom edge of the propane tank to prevent metal to metal contact and paint abrasion as suggested by CPA Harley (Jim).
I would also apply some anti seize compound on the bolts that hold the tray in place.
