Range hood fan fail

Our one day old Heng range hood fan has quit. The motor ran great at first then slowed way down, strained, and quit. I pulled the inside cover off and I can move the fan blade by hand but it is very stiff and hard to turn.

Looks to me like the fan motor has siezed up and I will need a new one. Anyone else had this problem, and if so was that the fix?

Yes. This was the first use of the fan, ran great for a minute or two and then slowed down and siezed up, I'm guessing it is just a defective motor that had a bearing not lubricated or fitted properly or something along those lines.

If that's the worst thing that happens to us this week we'll be in good shape.

Unfortunately the Heng’s motor/fan assemblies are cheap. There are replacement motors out there and because you are under warranty I’m sure ETI would send you one.

If you are looking to upgrade consider the SAM-1 unit. The 3 speed fan, 2 level LED light and internal slide damper make this unit wonderful. The owner of FOP unfortunately passed but some of these are still available on eBay.
