Repairing the awning
In between thunderstorms this afternoon I went out to roll up my awning. I have the old kind, not the whizbang awning ETI uses nowadays. I have a tear of several inches where the flap that hangs down over the cylinder attaches to the rest of the awning. Water had flooded into this tear and partially filled the flap, which I had to drain out before I could roll it up.
So-- I need to sew up the tear. What should I use to do it? In the meantime I guess tape of some kind is the temporary solution.

WalMart sells a variety of needles and upholstery (heavy duty) thread. I would also buy some canvas weight fabric to use as a splint. Think Betsy Ross.

Our deck canopy at home had a tear and we used this.

It lasted the whole season, I replaced the canopy last fall and the tape was still firmly attached. I did both sides of the tear.

Is your awning fabric? Ours is vinyl, which makes me think tape is the only solution.

Correct.
Camping World and some other sites sell an awning repair tape:
