Ripples in Carlisle sidewall
Curious if others have noticed ripples in the sidewall of their Carlisle tires. After three years and several trips, I happened to look at the tires when the sun was directly behind the trailer. One tire has a ripple out (just left of DuraTrail), the other has a ripple in (under the I). These tires have 15,000 miles on them, but no road damage. Only the spare shows a date - 0715 (Feb'15). The spare (never used) has both a ripple out and a ripple in. Advice on the web is mixed - small ripples are normal. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I've had tires with ripples before, never caused an issue that I'm aware of. Do check both sides of the tires, I had bubbles on an old set of Power max tires, that is something to worry about.

Sidewall inward ripples are not uncommon in radial tires due to the sidewall reinforcing fabric shrinking asymetrically (tire fabric, as opposed to steel or kevlar belts, shrinks as the tire is cured). They should not be more than a 1/20" depth. Bulges in the sidewall are another matter as they indicate that the sidewall is failing.
I had some bulges show up in my Marathon tires (china bombs) on my Casita after three years and replaced them. A blowout on the road is no fun and can cause considerable damage to the trailer wheel wells. The new Carlisle Radial Trail HD that Escape now uses seem to be good tires and have a max 81 mph rating.

I had the impression from the forum that you didn't keep a trailer long after the initial propane bottles ran low.
How long did you have the tires with bulges without them failing?

Our 19 was completed in January 2018 and came with Rainier trailer tires. They are load range D.

Can anyone else with a recent pickup report if tires have been switched to Rainier across the line?

We picked up our 19 the 1st week of May and towed it back to Iowa with no issues. It came with the Rainier tires. No ripples evident yet.

This bums be out as the Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires are pretty highly regarded for an ST tire so I would be skeptical that going to the Rainier is any upgrade.

That pretty much sounds like posts that resulted when ETI moved to Carlisle.

The Reindeer tires are what Keystone and most all the stickies out of Elkhart are using. Got some type of special deal to put them on all the new builds coming out of Elkhart. ETI must have gotten in on that buy since I understand they haul a lot of parts up from Elkhart.
