RMD 8555 2 Door Refrigerator Shelf
We want to purchase an extra middle shelf for our fridge. There is a lot of wasted space there. I called up Dometic and the lady had to check twice because she thought the price was too much. It was something like $85. She then suggested that I look on Amazon or Ebay. Has anyone found one through an alternate supplier, I can not seem to be able to find any except in Australia.

I built an extra shelf using wire shelving from Home Depot I had laying around. I installed it with the lip pointing up to help keep items on the shelf. I may replace all the plastic shelves with these. I will post some pictures next time I take the trailer out.

I can tell you it is an odd size as the top shelf will not fit in the middle slot. I like the tall space for tall items to keep off the door.

They should make all fridge shelves in RVs with a lip on the front. Even 1/2" would do miracles to keep things from sliding off.

Ian, when you make an extra shelf, I will buy your middle one.

Ian- did you replace the plastic ones? Our bottom one cracked - that's where the heavy stuff goes like milk & juice. Miss my wire racks from the single door fridge we replaced.

Not Ian but my middle one cracked on my two door. Got it for C$140 at ETI factory.

I have not found (or even looked for) that specific part; however, I did need to replace a lost Dometic shelf clip (for the style of refrigerator now used by Escape). These parts are priced at roughly their weight in gold. One RV repair and parts store suggested that I could have those parts from one of the many dead Dometic refrigerators they had in the back on the way for disposal; however, they didn't have one of the right model (and so with compatible clips) at the time.
Since these appliances die quite regularly, are commonly replaced rather than repaired, and still have perfectly good shelves in them when the working parts die, it should be possible to salvage shelves from units headed for disposal. I suggest talking to RV service shops.

Since the Gen 1 Escapes used refrigerators designed for the European market they fit the definition of niche and thus will be even harder to find I would think.
Already found out from Domeric that the wire shelf from the single door will not fit (of course not!) so am interested in the alternative Ian suggested.

Rossue Our camping world in Valencia sells the 8 series refrigerator and have seen that refrigerator in new motorhomes here I bought a extra metal shelf from Dometic for the 4.3 . Wires racks at Lowe's Home Depot for shelving could be cut to use .Pat
