rmd8555 fridge
Ours worked great on the way home when it was replaced. Next trip it would not come on and I called a mobile RV tech. He checked everything then called Dometic and they had him check the same things again. The answer was a bad board and they sent one out, problem fixed under warranty. Another trip, everything OK. Went home for a while, next trip, nothing. Same tech comes out and repeats process. Another board under warranty. Now a year or so and many trips the fridge works well, hard to believe two were bad and I got them both.

In the 2017s there is a fusable link. It is a wire that runs to the chimney stack. The wire has a 180 degree bend. If it burns out, the frig will not work. Sorry, I don't have a pic right now.

Glad that the mystery is solved and that it is covered under warranty
I would still suggest getting a multimeter and having someone show you a few trouble shooting techniques.
Most of the time the solution to a problem is a simple fix and just throwing parts at it can get expensive.
When I taught electrical troubleshooting at the Vo Tech I always taught my students to take a logical systematic approach
and check the most obvious things first .
GOOD LUCK

Thanks Steve. I have already thought about getting an "economy" multi-meter from Harbor F. to add to my camper tool kit. I have found multiple YouTube videos on using one. I have used lots of different tools; however, electrical issues just have been too challenging for me. I'm thinking that's something I can work on now. Thanks for your help.

My sincere apologies to Fox hunt . Indeed, you did mention the control panel. So folks-----we have co-winners of the diagnostic event. Cold adult pops for winners when we meet at some rally in the future.

Extended Warranty
Can't remember the last time I've actually bought an extended warranty, but I'm sure I've been suckered into one some point.
Just so happens an Extended Warranty (EW) offer just came in today from Dometic, coming up on 2 years since I got the RMD8555 installed. I imaging if there was an item that warranted an EW it's these crappy fridges. What do you folks think, would you shell out $149 for another 2 years?

I did, on both the a/c and refer, due to everyone else's problems....

Wasn't there some catch to the Dometic extended warranty? Like taking it in every year to an authorized dealer for a cleaning or some such fine print?

Re the "extended warranty." ...After I ignored several letters from GM offering an extended warranty on my 3 year old truck I then got a couple letters, and, three phone calls, from my dealer.
He, and the next day she, wanted me to trade in my "old" truck on a brand new one, "at my same current payment schedule." Love those guys, so creative!

There was for the original "2" year warranty. It was only 2 years if you paid the service fee to take it in for the annual dealer servicing after 1 year.

I do recall that statement going around, however... On the original 1 door fridge I didn't have a 1 year service done and had maintenance at around 18 months. They punched the serial # in the computer, no one mentioned any missing 1 year service. Before the 2 year was up I had it replaced with the 2 door and started a fresh 2 year warranty, which is what expires in a couple months.

Ok, You guys are scaring me. We pick up our trailer in a few weeks and planning on spending a month to get it back home inculding several boondocking national parks. Now what if our refrig goes out ? Walter and I have quite a few talents but none of it involves meters, amps, volts, watts or fuses. I can see us way up in the mountains somewhere with all our food going bad. No Dometic repair shop next door. Should have taken an electrical course at the Vo Tech I guess. Why are these refrigs so unpredictable?

just make sure it works when you pick it up and enjoy it....most issues happen if at all, later. I have never had any over past 10 years with 9 campers

Probably because you haven't owned any of them long enough for a problem to develop, Jim.
But, I concur that if it is working when you pick it up, don't worry about it. If something does happen, go to the nearest Walmart (they're everywhere) and buy a cooler and some ice.
