Only applies while trailer is being towed and not when sitting still.

It's a Dometic thing. What works for some may not work for others.

Pardon my confusion ... So the little cup in the back of the refrigerator should be half filled with water before each trip (?). And there's a drain hose which carries the condensation from the refrigerator into the cup. And then one should check it periodically during the trip. Yikes, I didn't realize there was such an 'animal' (cup). We just finished a three week trip through Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Utah and Nevada and didn't have a problem with our refrigerator but maybe we just lucked out.

You don't fill it with water. You just add an ounce and a half of gin.

If you don't have a problem with the fridge temp rising while traveling don't worry about it. Several people with at least the 4.3 8551 fridge do have problems and a couple ounces of water in the cup helps to keep air from outside from being forced back up the drain tube and into the fridge while going down the road.

Every little bit of prevention helps these units, while under way the air circulation could have an impact on the performance and some units may have water from defrost cycles and some may not, but there is a hole in the back of your refer that when uncovered from water can and will allow warm air to enter the refer, your choice. Just like Alf found the air leaking from the door hole in some models, each one is different so you may not have any issues, but for those that do, plugging air leaks will help the performance.

"You don't fill it with water. You just add an ounce and a half of gin. "

Now THAT makes sense!!

However, you're right Jim, every little bit helps so we'll make note of the cup and keep it half filled when traveling. We have the original 6.7 and, knock on wood, it's been performing just fine (we do have the "Texas Fan"). Our outside temps ranged from 40s - 90s, refer set to 4, propane while traveling, electric when parked, running a little fan inside the refrigerator. The only issue I had was one night in Salt Lake when, at 1:00 am, it was 85º outside and the darn Texas Fan ran almost all night long ...

I was wondering about the defrost cycles as, while we were on our trip, I noticed an ice buildup on the baffles (fins, whatever) in the freezer. We were gone for three weeks and it seemed as if the ice was building but never got so bad I was worried. Have to look that up.

Hi: gbaglo... I keep the bottle of Gin/Vermouth in the freezer... 1oz. Vermouth to 25 oz. of Gin. I like mine dirty so 1 tbsp of Olive juice+ 2 Olives in the glass makes it so!!! Alf

I actually can't stand the stuff.
Mother of my first girl friend served me a gin and tepid water once many years ago. Triggered my gag reflex. Can't stand perfumed shampoo either, although, I'd probably drink that before gin.
