RMD8555 fan?

Got my 2016 21' in May. Just wanted to know if this frig. has an external compartment fan installed from the factory. I did not order the fan as an option. If there is a fan, how is it controlled? Thanks in advance for your help.

There is a single fan up high with the wires controlling it attached to a thermocouple on the black exhaust tube at the rear, accessible if you remove the outside access panel. If you remove the two wires and join them you should hear the fan come on. Attaching a inline switch will be the next step. The thermocouple is set too high, IMHO, and you either replace it with a lower temperature one or install the manual switch.

Jim,

Did you ever find a lower temperature switch for your fan? As I recall the setpoint is so high that it will probably never come on.

I installed the switch and wonder if I will need to disconnect it when I take it in for the one year service in August. I usually forget and leave the fan running since it is so quiet. I left the switch in the outside compartment and have no indicator.

I have the optional switch installed by ETI.
Mine is controlled by a clearly marked red rocker switch. But the rocker switch is behind the bottom access vent on the outside of the trailer.

The vent is plastic and I seem to remember that I turn the two black plastic knobs with a screwdriver till the slot is vertical, then lift up a little and jiggle the vent and it pops off. Then I can see the switch mounted on the pipeing on the back of the fridge.

The switch 'jumpers' the thermocouple switch.

For me, the best increase in cooling came by taking the fridge interior thermistor off of the fins and sticking it with doublesided tape to the side wall of the fridge about 2 inches to the left. But mine is a RM8551.

Yes I did but it was $$ so I did the fan switch.

Hi: fgunderson... The water cup no only collects condensation but also acts as an air dam to prevent warm air entering the fridge box, through the drain pipe, while under tow. Alf

Re: fan discussion

I can confirm my fridge fan kicked on somewhere around the +/- 90f mark.

At this point I would look at upgrading the fan for more cfm but not attach switch.

You need to add water before every trip as it will evaporate.

If you run the refer for a day to cool it down before a trip won't the condensation off the fins put water in the cup and create the dam?

Hi: fudge_brownie... It would probably not be enough to ensure the end of the hose is immersed in water. The cup has a slot that the hose is supposed to be slid into. This reminds me I need to go out and clean out the back of the fridge compartment while it's shut off. Thanks!!! Alf

On ours it don't. We run it for 2 days before leaving but the heat seems to evaporate it out. If I fill the cup half full when we leave it only seems to have water in it for a couple days. If we move I have to add water again.

This only applies to the 8XXX series. It is outside in the fridge vent snapped on to a tube toward the bottom of the fridge. It should have a clear drain tube in it.

Its the plastic cup on the bottom of the fridge in this picture.

Can someone provide a photo of the 8555 back panel and point out the wires to the fan unit and or the switch setup ETI did. I want to make absolutely sure which wires the the correct ones to deal with.
many thanks,
Larry

Not only has my cup never runneth over, I fill it with water nevermore.

Filled it half way once and forgot about it until the day I recently looked back in there. Water had all evaporated, probably in a couple days. We'd been on shore power with no ill effect, fridge down even to 29°F. Conclusion: don't waste your time, keeping water in there is silly, don't help with the cooling no way no how.

Thank you for explaining how full your cup is. I agree with your assessment. Putting water in the cup is not a necessary part of keeping your refrigerator cold.

The only time I ever bothered with the cup was when Alf told me to empty it to defrost the freezer which I did.

Temperature 100F today and refrigerator fine. In shade.
