Yes, but the reason for mounting on the trailer was to free up access to the truck canopy. This mount drops off to the side in seconds. My friend is a woman that couldn’t put her kayak on top of her truck canopy by herself. She has no problem with the Thule mount.

I have the hullavator and it's sweet! Pricey, but worth it imho. I only have to lift the kayak up next to the car, strap it, and then pivot it up to the roof. It was my retirement gift to myself.
