I thought I would share this solution to a minor problem we had with our Escape. There were two rough, dull patches on the edge of our roof, one on either side of the awning. I hadn't noticed it before, but if you looked for it or ran your hand over it the patch was very noticeable. I worried that maybe the gelcoat was defective, but after showing Reace pictures of the patches he said that it appeared to be some glue or caulking that wasn't cleaned off after manufacturing. He suggested it would wipe away with solvent.
I tried a product labeled "Solvent" from Canadian Tire, but it didn't touch it. What did work fantastic was Goof Off. I didn't find any other reference to cleaning the gelcoat on this forum (though I may have missed this), so I wanted to share my finding. Goof-off is available in small tins as well.

I have a patch right under rear curve . I think it was from foam spray being wiped off . I will try Goof off . I have tried other solutions with no luck . Thanks for sharing . Pat

Goof Off
In the mid eighties I was checking an invoice one of my park foremen had turned in and one of the purchases was Goof Off.'I asked Kenny if he'd bought another maintenance worker at the hardware store but no, it was a graffiti removal product. Very effective on permanent marker which was used liberally in the parks where Franklin professed his undying love for Geraldine or something like that. Been using it ever since for removing all sorts of unwanted glues, sealants and the like. It's a very good product just to have around. Especially for final surface prep before painting etc.

I had a house painter confess that's the product that made him look really good! I bought some shortly thereafter and have used it ever since for a variety of applications.
