Rust from toilet

For those of you who use their showers, do you have a rust grunge coming from underneath the toilet? I clean it and the next time I shower there it is again. This has been happening since I picked it up in June of 2018. I am assuming, of course, that this is rust 🤷🏼

Our 2018 21 Escape has had many showers taken and there is no rust showing around the toilet.

Hi: Calicia... The only way to know for sure is to pull the toilet. This seems a bigger job than cleaning around the base of it. Hard to know how you get rust from a plastic toilet and plumbing pipes. Alf

Rust from toilet

Our 2018 21 Escape has had many showers taken and there is no sign of rust anywhere in the toilet or shower area. Very puzzling indeed. Does the rust have a strong odor when cleaning. Something may be leaking at a seal.

No odor and it is a rusty orange color. I guess I’ll call ETI and, if necessary have the toilet pulled.

I can not understand how rust can appear in the cold water toilet as there is no metal in the water supply line. Are you on a well or some other non municipal water supply? Is there rust in your sink when you run the water? It is the same source!

The rust is not in the toilet but is coming from the base of the toilet where it sits on the floor. It appears from all around the base.

I believe there are a couple of nuts and washers that hold the toilet in place, I suspect they are the source of your rust.

We use ours and have no rust issue, we do dry everything after use. The only thing I can think of is if one or both of the hold down bolts are rusting. Might be able to see it if you were to pop off the plastic bolt covers.

Doug beat me to it.

It can be grinding dust , chips from drill bits and even lost tools . screw drivers, old tape measures. Maybe just maybe.

Update on the rust- I took it to an RV shop here in New Mexico and he pulled the toilet and found that the two bolts on either side holding the toilet to the floor were not pure brass but a metal covered with brass or just looked like brass and they had rusted. He replaced them with pure brass bolts and I hope that is the end of the problem.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my problem.

Hope this is the end of all Escape-related issues for the foreseeable future, Calicia!
Happy travels!
