safety alert for E21 owners
Hello all,
This is just a quickie to alert owners to a safety issue with at least some E21's and perhaps other models.
On our E21 delivered last year, and presumably all recent E21's, the floor under the table is about 3" or so higher than the rest of the trailer floor. The edge of the step is protected with an aluminum molding.
The molding is the safety problem. On ours, and presumably others, the edge of the molding is sharp - in our case sharp enough for my wife to badly cut her foot on it. Owners here would be well advised to check any such floor moldings in their units. Kids in bare feet would be at particular risk.
The fix is easy, just round the sharp corner with a file. For a temporary fix until the filing begins, cover the edge with tape.

Good advice, I found some of the formica edges sharp and took a file to smooth out the edging, particularly on my table. So the metal trim edge needs to be softened also. One other item I found that needs attention on any trailer, if you have dogs, the step has drain holes and my dog got his nail caught in one, somewhat painful. I installed a small adhesive step cover to prevent that from happening again.

Yes, that step is part of the classic Trillium-pattern design, and is found in all Escape models except for the early (up to 2016) 21' and 5.0TA .

ETI’s build sheet had a carpeted step cover, and I got it. I’m thinking bungee cords attach it, but they installed mine for me. Nice.

The ones I’ve used have two pairs of grommets; each pair is connected under the step by spring w a hook on each end.

That’s probably the same with mine.

Escapes are pretty sharp.... in more ways than one, it turns out.
