Sewer Hose Fitting

After picking up our Escape 19 in July 2010, Patti and I traveled about western Canada for a couple of weeks. The bayonet hooks on the sewer hose fitting broke after about a week. I bought a new hose in Edmonton and
discovered the fitting on the end of that hose was too big to slide into the PVC "slinky" holder at the back of the trailer. The pipe narrows for about an inch after the threaded end and won't allow the fitting to be pushed back far enough to screw on the end cap. Before heading back to the U.S., we stopped at the factory and picked up a replacement hose, but the hooks on that fitting broke a few months later. All the replacement fittings I've found
so far are too big to fit in the hose holder. For now, I'm carrying the sewer hose in a black plastic trash bag in the back of my pick-up. I don't like this as a long term solution. I'd rather carry it in the proper place. Any suggestions as to how to deal with this would be much appreciated.

Rich

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

As soon as we pick up our 19' in January I'll replace the stock hose carrier again with the one in the link above from Camping World. The stock hose will also be replaced at the same time.

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

Although we don't have our Escape yet, we have purchased a product called Sewer Solution, which might be an alternative solution for you, not involving a stinky slinky at all. See postings at http://escapeforum.org/index.php?top...10798#msg10798

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

The slinky tube that came with our trailer appears to have a "normal" connector end that has been sanded/grinded down enough to fit into the tube. (That leaves the hook-tabs relatively thin and more prone to breakage) I think, using a Dremel type tool, it looks like a fairly easy job to grind a replacement one down enough to have it fit in the tube. Anyone tried that?

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

I ground my replacement down to fit. Works fine. I broke the first one when I dropped it ( tossed it ) on the ground ( cement ). Don't do that.

I did. Used a Dremel. It took longer than it should have because I didn't want to grind off any more than absolutely necessary. Next time I won't worry about that. I might try grinding a couple of channels into the storage tube itself. Only have to do that once.

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

Dick - grinding the end fitting on the tube is a good idea. If you do it, let us know how it works.

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

I cut 2 notches in the end of the PVC to allow the bayonets to fit into the PVC further and yet allow the cover to screw back in. Works like a charm. The PVC is regid enough that the cover still is secure when screwed in place.

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

I like the idea of grinding the PVC tube, that way the pipe does not slip a ways inside.

Re: Sewer Hose Fitting

My original sewer hose developed a leak, so I replaced it with a DuraForm hose purchased at Camping World. It's a 10 foot hose that has push on connectors that I store in a seperate container. This has worked out well for me.
