Sink Label Sticky

We are the owners of 15B. We peeled the label off the sink which has left a sticky substance on the sink surface. We have tried Vim, peanut butter, dish soap to try and get this off, which have not worked. Any suggestions which would not hurt the sink.

Thanks

Re: Sink Label Sticky

What you want is Goo Gone. It's made for removing sticker adhesive.

Goo Gone should work. "Removes chewing gum, grease, tar, stickers, labels, tape residue, oil, blood, lipstick and mascara, shoe polish, crayon, bumper stickers." It has not failed me yet. It's available at stores like Home Depot and the like.

WD40 also works on removing adhesives.

What do you use to remove the smell of WD40?

I have replaced WD40 with Jigaloo. Does the same job and doesn't smell awful, and linger..........

Re: Sink Label Sticky

When dealing with any adhesive, you sometimes have to try several different solvents (it depends on the nature of the chemical bonds in the adhesive). I usually start with regular lighter fluid, then rubbing alcohol, move up to one of the orange cleaners, and then trot out the big guns...Goof Off. Be careful with Goof Off - its a potent mix of solvents that can dissolve some plastics.

Re: Sink Label Sticky

Hi: All...Anybody up to trying to remove the pine goo streaks on the side and roof of "Our Escape Hatch"?
Short of cutting down the tree...I'm tired of scraping and rubbing. Goo Gone works after 3-4 apps. and 15min. of rubbing each goo drop., but there's so much goo to doo!!!
Tammy said to use Acetone but that's strong stuff too Alf

Alf, have you tried an automotive bug and tar remover? May or may not work, but they should be safe on fiberglass and have worked well for me getting tree sap off cars and trucks.

Re: Pine Tar:
I did a quick search for "remove pine tar from fibreglass boat" and found the following recommendations:
  • automotive rubbing clay
  • kerosene (like dissoves like)
  • WD-40
  • gasoline (careful!
  • rubbing alcohol
  • waterless handcleaner (without pumice)
Obstensively, these won't harm the gel-coat. Personally, I'd try kenosene first.

HTH;
Dave

p.s.: I've found lots of good resources for our "dirt yachts" in the marine community.

All that's good to know. I hate the tree "droppings".....so hard to get off. I'm gonna try the Kero

Re: Sink Label Sticky

Hi: All...Well the hands down winner in the Goo Off contest wasn't even a contender. My old friend and yellowed plastic headlight lens cleaner...BRASSO!!! Dab some on the goo( crusty by now)... let it set a spell ... rub till the goos gone, and when dry to a haze, buff with a dry soft cloth.
Down side of this is that it's been there long enough to have made a stain in the gel-coat albeit quite faint and not visable from the ground.
Up side is that the yellowed range vent hood is now white again.
Proves that you... never can tell!!! Now about those little black specks on the roof and in the caulking? Alf

I love Brasso! Back in the days before subdued "brass", I used a lot on my uniforms. Now its used for the big o' brass door handles on the front door and for plastic polish. Be cautious with it however...it is an abrasive and may mar the get-coat...or leave a spot with a slightly different sheen. I'd try a chemical remover (kero, et al) before I used a physical one (anything abrasive). Sounds like it worked for you tho, Alf.

Dave (seven days to completion!!!!)

Re: Sink Label Sticky

Hi: Garand...Dave...Are you by chance Xing the days off the calendar?
The abrasive in the Brasso I think is finer than auto rubbing clay. The Brasso did take some of the chaulky white off the trailer, but then the whole rig needs waxing before storage :P.
I just finished washing it and only a low flying stunt pilot will see the shine in the chaulk free spots. Alf p.s. What's the ETA in Memphis?

Re: Sink Label Sticky

Alf;
Not quite x-ing off the days...but certainly there's a little of the "kid before Christmas" syndrome going on here. Tammy estimated 5-6 days for the delivery to our door...so I'm guessing sometime around the 22nd.

In the meantime I'm going through all the gear we pulled out of the old Casita. While we kept it organized when we removed it, I'm going through it again to ensure all the supplies are topped-up and everything is ready to go. For instance, the "Hardware" box contains a container called "Lubes and Adhesives." At least one of the open tubes of stick-um has dried out, so its time to replace it. Just piddling around until we can actually start packing the trailer.

I'm having the 5th wheel put in the truck next Wednesday. That should give me good insight into what can go in the truck bed around the hitch.

Dave
