"Sliding windows that DON'T" with out a struggle !!!

Hi: All... I'am not complaining about tight sliders, tight is good in some cases, but is there some easy/peassy non messy SOMETHING that can be added to the tracks. This could certainly save my calcium deficient finger nails as well as allowing my wife to be able to open a window of opportunity, with out missing it!!! Alf

Alf, sliders are inherently terrible for that. Some of the better ones we install in homes have rollers with bearings and ride on a track. Because of needing a tight seal, operation is always a bit stiff with a slider, as opposed to an awning or casement style window.

One thing one must do is to be diligent about keeping them clean, as the track is exposed to the weather. Once cleaned, a lubricant that dries completely, such as a spray silicone can be used. Don't use anything greasy because it will just attract more dirt.

Re: "Sliding windows that DON'T" with out a struggle !!!

We had one slider that was very hard to open. This last camping trip, i had a day with not much happening, so i tackled the windows. I took out all the screens, cleaned the tracks, cleaned the windows (i had a spray can of window cleaner). Then i sprayed the tracks with silicon spray & worked the windows back & forth & put the screens back on. What a difference! They open & close at the touch of a finger! Good thing to do for those kind of days.
