Spare Tire Cover

Can someone help me clean our beautiful Maple Leaf Spare Tire Cover? It has the 'ring around the collar' going on, and want to find a product that will clean it up! Thank you Robin of Carmichael

Re: Spare Tire Cover

Hi: robinp...Those nasty rings...and "Tide" won't get them out this time. I think they're caused by the tire rubber from inside the vinyl cover. Try Fantastic spray straight from the bottle. Even it may not get it all off. Alf

Re: Spare Tire Cover

Alf, thanks for the tip. I have been contemplating having a go at ours. When it is in the fabric shed, the tire cover is right up against the fabric and that pressure seems to bring out that black ring even faster. Maybe Reace and Tammy should sell a black version?

Re: Spare Tire Cover

If the tire is covered with an impervious material, then the black will not bleed through. I had my father spray paint mine which was white starting out, with a vinyl paint (for outdoor resin furniture). The difficulty is that it remained sticky for quite awhile. I then put a black plastic bag over the tire and then put the cover on and so far so good. Also Camping Word sells them (plain white or American Flag though) for about $12.00.

Re: Spare Tire Cover

One solution is to get one of these tire covers : - ) Always trying to get the word out!!!! Of course, after last Monday night's game against Boise State, there may be some of these just laying along the roadside : - (

Re: Spare Tire Cover

I too have the "ring around the collar" on my 2006 17B, and Reace had put a black trash bag over the spare tire. So, it is not the black tire that is coming through, it must be something else. When I can get a clear or white lawn bag, I'll wrap that around the tire and see if that helps.

I am hesitant to use any strong cleaner on that tire cover. I am afraid that it may damage the material.

Re: Spare Tire Cover

Yeah. I gave the trailer the annual washing on the weekend, and the spare tire cover looks kinda sad.

I would pay for a hard cover like the spare tire cover on many SUVs, including my RAV4. It would have to be the same colour as the trailer and match the style.

Just like I would like a propane tank cover that meets the same criteria.

Re: Spare Tire Cover

You can always go with a Continental Kit:
http://www.discountvantruck.com/rvva...stirecover.htm. Truly a one and done solution. Paint the center however you wish. Padlock the stainless steel ring and it would be next to impossible for someone to steal the spare.

Re: Spare Tire Cover

Hi: Donna D...Now that sounds like a permenent solution to "Ring around the COVER". A sign shop could cut a new peel'n'stick Maple leaf for those of us who take pride in flying it. Alf

Jerry - ours also had the plastic bag covering the tire. The same was true with our Scamp than the same staining happened to it. I thought that it was due to our fabric shed material rubbing against it, but apparently not.

Here's a site for the maple leaf and you can have it in any color you wish... plus you can add some text:

Donna, while awaiting that big win, I sure appreciate all the "fiberglass wisdom" you provide us here.

Re: Spare Tire Cover

For anybody who wants to prevent the spare tire from making black marks on your cover in the first place, here's an idea. When we bought our pop-up something like 15 years ago, the dealership wrapped the spare tire in aluminum foil, before putting on the cover. This worked great and was a nice touch that we appreciated.
