Yes, exactly. I have a 15 amp power cord cord with a 30 amp adapter I have been using for years, lighter and easier to use when air conditioning is not needed. So I'm planning on installing this adapter to my rear hatch and use a 20' 15 amp extension cord. Gives me more choices in case the 30 amp outlet is inaccessible or out of service.

If used while camping I'll put something around the 30 amp cord or use the 15 amp set up which is sealed on the outside.
🤔Why not just get detached power chord? No bugs anywhere, camping or at home, no extra holes to drill 😁

Last year we had several state cg's with bad 30 amp service and had to use 15 amp extension cords. Because of that I just leave my 30 amp cord at home if air conditioning is not needed. Also did not want to leave my 30 amp outside all year while plugged in at home, rather sacrifice a short 15 amp extension cord. This way I can carry both types and if needed plug them in to form a longer power cord. This also eliminates the bug issue unless I'm using 30 amps which is rare.

I think that for your situation, I would go with an adapter like this one. (https://www.amazon.ca/Conntek-Pigtai...l_6zsm5qwd5j_e)

That is what I have already own and been using the past 7 years with my existing 15 amp cord,
now I'll have more choices.

Yea, I guess if you are NOT getting the removable power cord, the adapter I mentioned above is not going to do much for you. But I think that rather than putting another hole in the side of my Escape for a 15A plug, I would simply go with the removable 30A power cord option and the 15A-30A adapter that I have shown above.

So it's finally clear: Jim's 15-amp inlet isn't an additional inlet for the trailer, it's a way to get a 15-amp power cord through the hatch, to the stock 30-amp shore power cord. There are hatches which provide compartment access and let you close the door with the built-in cord coming out, example:
JR Products ZH152-A
Of course that's not really sealed (the same as the stock cable hatch), so the feed-through-the wall fitting (or a detachable cord) would be more weather-and-bug resistant.
