Stic Vac

Does anyone use a stic vac to clean their trailer? If so, where do you store and recharge it? We have ordered a 19' for Jul delivery, therefore, could get an outlet put into a closet or other area. David

I carry along a small rechargeable dust buster that fits in the closet or under one of the dinette seats. It does the job and doesn't take up too much room.

There's so little floor space that a broom with a collapse-able handle works for us. And I can "mop" the whole floor in under 5 min. on my knees with a hand sponge.

The idea of vacuuming and camping together is wrong is so many ways! I sweep.. when I feel like it. And, shake the rugs. Any heavy cleaning can wait until I get HOME.

We carry a Dust Devil hand vac that plugs into a 110V outlet. A broom works good too.

Ahh, what's dirt to one person is planting soil to the next. I just try to stay out of the way of all the cleaning, Liana has a much lower tolerance than me, so I get a pass on cleaning.. but come to think of it she hasn't dumped the tanks at all.

Hi: All... I'm with Donna D on this one. There's something contradictory about cleaning and camping on the same weekend!!! If "Our Escape Hatch" requires sweeping changes we have a small brush and dust pan to remove the crud. Keeping shoes outside on the mat enhances the environment inside too. I don't know, sometimes I just feel the need to vacuum.... especially the little space between the screen door track and where the front door hits.

I have this Black & Decker 12 volt vacuum I really like.

We have the B&D vac Cheryl has as well. It works quite good for both the vehicle and the trailer. And yes, that spot by the screen door is always on the list to do. We bought ours at CTC.

Thanks to all for the helpfull replies. Looks like we will go with the broom and some kind of electric hand vac and will ask Reace to add a 110 outlet to the wardrobe. David

I wonder if it would even be allowed to put a 110V outlet in the wardrobe. I know in home construction that is illegal. Even a closet can't get one unless it is large enough to call a dressing room. It has to do with wimpy electrical cords being plugs being plugged in an creating a fire hazard. Though they do get away with one in a cabinet in preparation for a future microwave, but a microwave always has a decent cord attached to it.

We use a 18 volt cordless vacum,
I allso use the battery on a drill and raise and lower my four stabilizer jacks.

I have an 18V Milwaukee vacuum that works great. It is the size of a small tollbox though and a bit to big to stow. Takes up valuable beer space.

I checked into it some. The electrician forum consensus was it's not a National Electrical Code (NEC) violation in the US to install an outlet in a closet. http://www.electriciantalk.com/f5/cl...ceptacle-1914/

The risk is associated with ventilation - producing a lot of heat in a confined space could generate a fire. Or there could be an explosion hazard if there were trapped propane or something in there and an arc. However, it occurs to me that our trailers are basically rolling closets themselves!

I will probably get the 12V B&D vac. It has a nice long cord 16' that can reach most everywhere, and it isn't going to run out of gas after a couple minutes of use. I actually have the Dyson Root 6 portable but it lasts only about 5 minutes.

If vacuuming while camping is really important to you... and you already know my thoughts on that... look in the archives of FiberglassRV. Per Walthinsen added a CENTRAL VAC to his 17' Burro. This is the same guy that also added a towel warmer in the bathroom. You'll never see another Burro quite like Per's. It's a work of art.

We asked Tammy and Reace to put an outlet in the wardrobe but as ronstew, Jim Bennett and memobug stated it isn't legal. T&R looked for options and it appears as though there are enough outlets already in the trailer to accommodate a vac. Again, thanks for all the help on this. As an aside, reading and replying on this forum is a vicarious way we have to enjoy camping even though we don't have a trailer or the weather doesn't permit it. Checking this forumn several times a day is a must do for us.

Reace put in a 12 volt plug at the kiten table for us.
And 12 volt power for strip lighting under the queen bed.
