Maybe some grease on the bolts would help?

Hi Doug,

The dimensions are 1/8" aluminum plate that was sheared at 6-1/2" wide. The side that runs parallel to the tube is 8-3/4" with a 2-1/2" vertical leg. I intentionally did not have the aluminum bent at a sharp 90 deg. It can crack or at least become weakened. The inside radius of the bracket almost matches the radius on the frame corners. You are correct about the galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals and I did liberally coat the surface of the bracket with water proof grease where it contact's the frame. I also limited the attachment points to three to minimize the number of holes into the frame. The bolts also have a liberal amount of anti-sieze compound on them. (I put that %#&$ on everything!!!) The frame is also painted so it shouldn't be an issue. As a bonus I found that the top surface of the aluminum bracket was the perfect size and had enough clearance above to mount the remote sensor for our thermometer inside a water proof container. It's out of the rain and sun and is very secure.

Cheers,

Paul S.

I forgot to add that the the length of the aluminum brackets are based on the 64" hose carrier that Camping World sells. I installed the slightly shorter carrier on the 17' Escape we used to have and it worked great 3 years.

But wait there's more.........!!!

The length of the brackets is based on an inside frame width of 48". I assume, always a dangerous thing to do, that the frames are assembled on a jig so they should be consistant but you never know.

Cheers,

Paul S.

Paul S. -- Thanks for that information but I still have a question. In your original post regarding the mod, you said that you had the aluminum plate "drilled and tapped for 4/20 bolts". This has me a bit confused. Why would you tap the plate and not the holes in the frame? (I'm probably not reading this correctly).

Has anyone checked to see if the "proper" container will fit in between the spare tire holder and the rear trailer wall on the 19? That's where it was mounted on our 2006 17 and it fit perfectly. Just curious.

The drilling and tapping is only into the frame. The bolts pass cleanly through the aluminum plate.

A couple of stainless pipe straps around the rear bumper, will hold the tube under the rear bumper, and no modifications are required.
Works graet on our 19 now.

Yes, but the 17'-B with double 6 V batteries has no room on top of the frame.

Paul S.------How were you able to tap the bolt holes in the frame to hold the alumninum plates for the new slinky holding tube? I was under our trailer today and I won't be able to turn the tap wrench for a full circle since it will hit the trailer body. Do you have a special tool, like some sort of ratchett, that will do the job?

Hi Doug, I do have a ratcheting tap holder. It's the only way to cut the threads and maintain your sanity!!!
