Stop Chock

The following questions is for those who currently have the 19' or previously had another TT w/double axle...

Have any of you used the stop blocks that go in between the wheels for added stability & extra safety? If so, did you find that they were effective and worth the $? Which ones do you use (make/model)?

On our 1st trip to Camping World yesterday, I saw two different styles.

One is primarily lightweight plastic (2.5 lbs) & less expensive which is good, but I'm not sure of it's durability. The small version fits 26 inch to 30 inch diameter tires with tire spacing of 1-1/2 inch to 3-1/2 inch. The larger version fits tires 26 inch to 30 inch in diameter with spacing of 3-1/2 inch to 5-1/2 inch. Does anyone with a 19 know how far apart the wheels are spaced?

The other is sturdy steel which is good but twice as expensive and 3x as heavy (6.5 lbs each). It supposedly will fit tire spaces from 1 3/8" - 12" apart which is more versatile than the plastic model.

It seems like a worthwhile expenditure to me - especially if it minimizes rocking/movement inside the trailer since Shay is prone to motion sickness.

Thoughts &/or opinions are appreciated...

Brad

Re: Stop Chock

Hi: Texscapes... Sorry I can't help with the double axle part but we just use the simple plastic wedgies and drive them in with a rubber mallot. Once the rear stabilizers are down tight, and the landing gear down, "Our Escape Hatch" is solid!!! No rockin' our "Boat". Save your money for important things like marshmallows and Baileys!!! Alf

Re: Stop Chock

We bought the starter kit (and chocks were part of the package) with our 19', and Reace showed me how to set them. They're inexpensive plastic, and they work fine. Put "How to set chocks" on your list of questions to Reace when you pick yours up. He has a cool technique with them for stabilizing the trailer.

Re: Stop Chock

Brad, I personally am not real keen on the idea. I don't like the idea of the forces pushing the axles apart. I realize that one should only do them up lightly, but I am a bit leery. Chocks seem to work fine.

Re: Stop Chock

Hi Brad, ditto the other remarks. The chocks really just keep the wheels steady while you put down your front and rear stabalizers, and to keep it steady (not rolling down a hill) after the stabalizers are put up again, and you're hooking up. There are better things to spend your $$ on (like flowers for your camping buddy : - ) )
