Stovetop grate keeps bouncing off

We've been noticing the stovetop grate keeps coming off after driving/towing. I thought initially the legs were not pushed into the stovetop, but even after I put it back on properly, it's usually out after a short trip. I know the roads in Portland are full of potholes, but does anyone have any ideas for securing it?

If we are talking about the same stove top, I have three burners and three 'grates'. You squeeze the grate near the opening in it to compress it and then place it in the slots. When you let go, it expands and won't release until you compress it.
I've never had a grate come loose over miles of washboard and potholes.

Hi: DMPortland... All you need to do is pry/expand the grate a bit so it requires more compression to get it back in the holes. That will make it hold in there. I've had to do ours a couple of times. Alf

Alf,
I have to do that sometimes to my belt on my pants, particularly after a big meal...

We've experienced that problem as well. We don't have the white cook top cover like you do. I am surprised that doesn't hold them in place. Will try bending a cook top a bit to increase the holding pressure.

Put a dish towel between the top of the grate and the underside of your cover, then close the cover and bungie it down. During travel, the grates will then stay in place with no rattling around.

My grate pops out on every tow, always has. I'll try bending it to see if that helps.

A photo of our stove top grate - no cover

Photo attached. I'll try some bending for more resistance to bounce-out.

Hi: DMPortland... Sorry I forgot about the 3 burner stove top/oven. It will certainly bend different than ours. Alf

The three burner set up have rubber grommets to help secure, make sure they are not missing

Apparently ours is an older style burner with three separate circular burners. They are "spring loaded" such that you have to compress them to fit into the holes. Flexing them slightly such that there is more pressure once they are inserted still might work however.

Dale (DMPortland) has the optional range (oven with stovetop) which is entirely different from any of the standard (no oven) stoves. As Jim explained, the legs of the heavy wire grate go into grommets at each corner - mine are lined up straight with the grommet holes, with no bending to insert or remove.

Normally these require some force to pull out of the snug grommets, and need to come up significantly to come loose, so bouncing out should not be a problem. Are there missing, loose, or hardened grommets?

All four grommets are in place, but they may have hardened. I wonder if a dab of silicon would be enough to hold the grate in place - silicon is fairly heat resistant.

We were never able to keep our stock cooktop grates in place when traveling. And yes, we bent them outward so you had to squeeze them slightly to get the pegs to line up with the holes. We then just started removing and storing them whenever we were about to tow - until we replaced the cooktop with a Dickinson.

stove top grate

Never had this problem on my 2 burner stove even on washboard roads. Is it just with the three burner?

If I could do it again and there was a one burner option I would go for it never used more than one at a time.

Me the same. Would be nice that became an option!

The issue Dale (DMPortland) is having is specifically with the stovetop of the range - so only if you have an oven. An Escape stovetop without an oven - whether it has two or three burners is an entirely different design.

Range with oven and 3-burner stovetop (subject of this thread):

Stovetop without oven (two-burner stainless shown, three-burner similar):

The 3-burner is not shown on the Escape Trailer website.
