Strenght of the roof on a 17B
does anyone know if the roof of the 17B (with A/C) is strong enough for a person to stand on. I need to go up there to put UV protection on all the plastic parts on the roof, but I don'w want to take a chance on standing on the roof if it cannot hold me..............I'm 180lbs weight.
Thanks

Pretty sure it wouldn't. and would not advise it. When mounting A/C. they add an extra fiberglass shroud to support it.

Re: Strenght of the roof on a 17B
I use an 8' ladder and lean a lot. I can reach the whole roof, but I have to move the ladder 3x on each side. I just was up there to open the Maxxfan lid all the way as part of the motherboard replacement. I knelt on one knee on the roof about 6" from the side for a bit, felt no flexing, saw no damage. I did use a 6"x18" piece of plywood to distribute the stress, tho.

I use a tall ladder aswell and can reach the middle from the ladder on both sides and even with hand pressure while i was polishing out all the little bits of epoxy they left up there from the factory when they mounted the ac and solar brackets the roof will flex so I would definatly not stand up there.

Thanks to all. I won't risk it.

Re: Strenght of the roof on a 17B
I have a couple pieces of dense foam that looks like the stuff sold for pipe insulation. Two foot tube with a slit down the length of it.
I attach those to the top of the ladder so I can lean it against Toad without doing any damage. I have placed one knee on the edge of the roof when I needed to reach.

I thought about doing something similar while i was standing very uneasily on the step ladder doing my roof and i did Almost fall several times. I am sure that stabilizing your self on the edge with a knee would be ok.

This is the largest size pipe insulation I could find. Is at Home Hardware.

Further to this thread. Here is a pic of the protection I use when working on the roof. It is actually packing material for a Weber BBQ I bought.

I found that one of those telescoping multi-position ladders (like the Little Giant or similar) works well. Very stable and I can, as others have done, lean to reach the center of the Escape. Beats a step ladder for stability.
