It's either a table or a bed. The table can't be completely removed unless you unscrew it from the hinge bracket.

It uses the same hinge setup that's used in my Scamp. When in the table position, you only see the silver tabs that are at the table top level. In the bed position you see the "tube" bracket. I don't find it visually bad at all.

We have had four sitting at our two pedestal table a few times playing cards on mizerable nights, and there has always been lots of foot room for everyone. There is a lot of space to put long legs without the pedestals interfering. To me the wall mounted setup looks a bit chinzier, but again that is just my take.

So the hinged table is always there unless you unscrew the hinge bracket. What about the pedestal table -- can the legs and the table be completely removed?

We are so glad we found a third option. No flanges in the floor and no hinges on the wall. Make the table any size you want with filler pieces. Pull one lever and drop it into place. Totally removable.

In our 2008 5.0 the two pedestals are right next to one another creating a pretty big block of metal. I think the table in the 19' has the pedestals spaced out...maybe there is more floor space there. In our 5.0 with the u-shaped dinette configuration there is not as much space so the pedestals are right next to one another. BUT, they can be removed leaving just the bases for the pedestals which are screwed to the floor.

Wouldn't that make the bed 12" shorter in length? Is it long enough to lose that much?
Our Boler B1700RGH has a storage space (not 12" wide) behind the driver's side seatback of the dinette. The trailer is roughly the width of an Escape 19', and has more rounded corners that cut into the footroom of the dinette as bed.

Gotta love this thread. Here's a manufacturer that give options to the owner of the trailer for a TABLE. That's unheard of from other manufacturers with their take it or leave it attitude. It's all about the owner's needs and wants. How absolutely cool is that?!

Yes you can, Ruth. Just the bases remain, and the pedestal 'tubes' can be set and stored aside. You can see in this photo what it looks like with the pedestals and table removed. You can also see that there is good legroom under the table too.

I would shorten the whole thing by at least 8", and up to 12" in the 21 or ne 5.0. This would leave the bed at about 70". For some this would be an issue, but for us not really much. The grand kids are much shorter, and we have only had an adult sleep there 2 or 3 times, and they are not that tall. Plus, one person could sleep diagonally if the length is needed.
I am not suggesting that it is for everyone, but I would certainly like it. Rarely do I get to use the backrest while seated at the dinette, though not an issue most of the time, sometimes it would sure be nice.

I carry a pair of these and they fit nicely in each corner of the dinette for additional back support:

Both Jims -- thanks for the picture of the dinette and the reminder about the back support pillows. I've been thinking that there might be times when we'd leave the dinette made up into a bed and put big pillows on it to use as a lounge area. Can you tell me where the table legs go when the bed is made up?

They will fit under the dinette area in some 19's or under the bed, just put as Alf said " a pair of old socks" on the ends to keep the noise down.

My wife made a couple padded sleeves for the pedestal tubes that protect other stuff from their sharpish ends. We too just slide them under the dinette when the table is down.

I just changed my build sheet yesterday to the "U" shaped dinette area in my Blackjack. I saw this in the owner's pictures and really like the look

The U-shaped dinette does look good, but functionally what do people see as the benefit? You really can't sit many more people as the side benches are shortened a lot, maybe one more comfortably. I guess there would be a bit more added storage under the short back seat.
For me, I think the biggest negative would be the much smaller table size. This probably stems from the fact that our table is always used as a marshalling area, and is often covered with stuff.
Just curious as to why this layout would be preferred.

Hi: Jim Bennett... When the table is pushed back it almost touches the backrest... so goes your stuff!!! We stuff stuff under the table on the rear bench for travel too. Remove the table and legs and it's like a sectional sofa to relax on. We've never had/want an Escape any other way. Alf

As you say, the table becomes the catch all. With this set up and the tv on the side refer wall viewing can be done straight on without one person having to turn, the table slides front to rear, is big enough for 3 diners and appears cozier. In addition I added 2 counter extensions on each side wall , refer and kitchen that if need be can add back the missing horizontal surface lost in the smaller table.

Alf,
I like your idea of a bathroom cut out rug for around the pedestals, neat.
