Tank Capacities

Hello Escape Experts
We are considering buying a 19' Escape (moving from the boating world to the trailering world). I am kind of curious to know what people's experiences are in regards to water, grey water and black water tanks capacities for 2 people. In our limited searching to date, it looks like the Escape tanks tend to be smaller than other units we have looked at.

Re: Tank Capacities

My wife and I find 4 days no problem with grey, black or fresh water tanks.

Re: Tank Capacities

I have not had an issue with 4 days either. I did take along a 6 gal (US) container. I like to do that anyway to have some water handy outside. We also only use the bathroom for convenience if facilities are provided where we camp, especially for a shower.

Black tank isn't a problem, you'll run out of other things before you fill the black tank.
Our 17' Casita had 24 gallon fresh and gray tanks as opposed to the Escape's 20 gallon tanks. However, the shower head must be a water saver, because the 20 gallons seem to go much further. We carry water to drink and cook with, but shower daily. So with the 2 of us, that's 2 days minimum, or maybe 3 days at the most. We're headed out with 2 grandsons this weekend, with no facilities where we're going (they are so excited they can't see straight). So it'll be interesting to see how the water, tanks and batteries last, particularily running the Maxx fan to keep things cool.

I would say that the Escape is pretty much in line with the other similar size trailers as it applies to tank size.. We found out the issue is the Grey water, so we got a 7 gallon hard shelled water container to dump the Grey tank into it so we can dispose of it.. If we stay out longer than 5 days w/o dumping..so far we haven't used it..

Re: Tank Capacities

We camped 6 nights without hookups in a CA state park. Had a 3 gallon water container to add to the fresh water tank a couple of times. Took showers in the park's facilities and basically just used the trailer's toilet in the evenings and early mornings or when I didn't feel like walking down to the restrooms... The gray and black tanks were showing 2/3 full and fresh water tank was nearly empty when we left.

Thanks for everyone's replies. We just put a deposit on a 19' Escape today with a delivery date of March 2010. Probably lots more questions to come.

Congrats, you will love it for sure. Read through all the past posts on what others did, and ask away with any questions you may have.

Re: Tank Capacities

Congratulations and Welcome.
I am thinking about getting a replacement cap for the sewer: one that has a regular hose connection, along with a 15' hose for gray water purposes. In those areas that allow gray water utilization it would lighten the load. (Such as Santa Barbara County).

I'm not sure why most other areas won't allow draining gray water. Doesn't seem that all that soapy water could be good for dumps with septic anyway, and yet harms nothing in the woods. Glad somebody allows it. Maybe their afraid someone will pull the wrong valve?

Re: Tank Capacities

Another thing that allowing draining of the grey water would do, is to lessen the amount of waste water to be treated, saving on treatment and/or septic costs.
