Red face Tea in bed

My wife and I enjoy a cuppa in bed every morning, but our new Escape 21' does not have any shelving at the side of the bed to put our cups on! This was almost a deal breaker but we figured someone has already addressed this major problem! Can anyone help us?

Hi: Peter Westfall... We had the same issues with "Cracker's"!!! At least with the 5.0TA there's a few inches on either side of the mattress where the floor is open. Alf

My question is how do you even make it while in bed? I must assume you just go back to bed to drink your tea?

I enjoy my morning coffee outside of the weather is half decent, otherwise I sit at the table and enjoy the view.

Could you not do a drop down shelf on the bath wall. The window side would be tougher. Bed tables maybe?

I had the bath wall reinforced, enables one to hang things where needed, not necessarily limited at the studs.

You could try something similar to this.

What about a small freestanding tray that you can also use for breakfast in bed?

These, or similar, are commonly used in RV’s.

I use this in our Casita. Wedges between wall and mattress and works well.

Hi Peter-
We have a new 21’ being picked up in May. I love drinking my morning cup of Joe in the early morning while in bed. I had the wall next to the bathroom re-enforced and ordered a extra flip up table. For some reason they told me that I needed to install it myself, so that’s the plan. (I’m going to try to get them to do it when we have our orientation).
See you at the rally??
Mike

I must have my morning cup of coffee. 11 years in our Escape 17 and now a year in our 19 footer we don't move for the day until we have coffee in bed. I get up and make filter coffee into a thermos.
(Note to those who don't want a bathroom in their Escape: of course we use it! Port-a-potti in the rain - done with that!)
My wife sits propped up in the nice round corner of our trailer with the cat in her lap, I pass her the cup and then slide into my side of the bed and enjoy...no shelf to bump into, no tray to store. Try it, we recommend it. 2nd cup: outside or inside dependent on weather.

Similar for us, except that when I get up and make the coffee and take my wife her cup, our three cats have sometimes taken over the rest of the bed and there's no room for me

We take it in turns to brave the cold and get up to make the tea! My wife is British so it has to be in bed! We've thought about a tray table and that might be the best option, or small hinged shelves that can be raised when we've got our tea ready to drink.

We won't be at the rally as we live in Ontario and are heading down to Florida with our current trailer next week - We are involved with the Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners group and there's a big 30th anniversary build in Fort Myers in April with a lot of RVs in attendance, so hoping we might meet some Escape owners there!

Something like this could work:
https://www.amazon.com/Urban-Shelf-B...77734527&psc=1
Three parts: one part that slips under the mattress for stabilization, a second part that extends up the wall the desired height, and a third part that will collapse against the wall when not in use but then fold out 90 degrees and lock in place to put your teacup on. I bet Charlie (tractors1) at RV Widget Works could design and make one for you. Sounds like there might be others interested in such a shelf if Charlie would decide to make them. (Well, Charlie?)

We get up in the morning , my wife makes a pot of coffee and fill the thermos .
I get up , get dressed and brush my teeth . My wife then hands me the thermos of coffee and the dogs leash and proceeds to tells me and the dog to get out .
I go outside with the dog and drink my coffee while she picks up
Doesn’t matter if it’s 28 deg f or a blistering 75 deg F
