Texas Fan ?

I see some people are shunting the Texas fan thermostat with a manual switch. The thermostat looks to be set for 70C/160F. Did I read somewhere (Can't find it now.) where Dometic was going to a lower the setting of the thermostat switch for the fan? I also thought I read where someone had replaced the thermostat switch.

Are you referring to the RMD 8555 with the fan from the factory not coming on due to the wrong thermocouple temperature and myself and others shorted out the thermocouple via a shunt and manually operated the fan?

I'm aware of the switch mod. you did. I thought I had read in all the post that someone had replaced the fan cnotroller but I can't find that post now. I have found an aquastat (like what there is now but with a 50 deg. lower set point.) that will let the Texas fan come and shut off at 110F instead of 160F. I just wanted to compare notes. I was not sure if Dometic had recommended a replacement fan controller.

Was it this person?
Refrigerator Mods
I've been looking at that controller but I'm not certain if it is worthwhile or not.

Texas fans help to cool the refrigerator by removing the hot air in the back of the fridge compartment; but they are very noisy. I have to shut it off at night in order to be able to sleep.

We have the RMD 8555 and no Texas fan. We were told at the time that no Texas fan was needed, would not sell it to us, because they said that the new refrigerators at the time did not need it. We do have a little portable refrigerator fan that we can use, but the refrigerator did well in heat.

Interesting but that is not the one. That trailer is set up like a Casita with the side frig. exhaust. Casita uses a fan and a 90 deg .F. temp. switch located on the upper cooling fins. The issue they had was ambient temperature >90F would make the fan run even if the frig was off. They had to add a manual switch to override the temp sensor.
My Escape frig. is working ok and it has been running for two days but the fan has never turned on. My fan sensor looks to be rated at 70C/160F. It is attached to the coolant return line which today was only about 125F. I figure a switch set at 110 F., the frig. would have to be operating to make the fan run and the ambient temp. would not turn on the fan unless you were in the desert out west in the summer. Hopefully replacing the switch would return the Texas fan to a fully automatic mode in my E-21.

I guess I will see if the fan is needed when it get hot here in the East.

My experience with the RMD8555 fan was a bit different.

Reace told us that the fridge in our 2015 '21 would come with a default fan and not to order the Texas fan, and we followed his advice.

A couple of weeks ago - my first camping trip this year - I was prepping the trailer and heard the fan turn on. The ambient air temperature was a comfortable 75F/24C but the fridge side of the trailer was in the afternoon sun. And I could only hear the fan while standing outside - nearly inaudable from the inside.

Don't have a clue why my experience is different from other owners.

There is a stock factory installed fan on the rear of the RMD 8555 and not to be confused with the optional "Texas" fan option Escape may install during initial installation.
