That stinking dump hose.

Over on another post today the subject of dump hose smell came up once again. If your having trouble with this issue, it's real simple. Wash your hose out if possible and drain out the water before you store it away each time. During summer time temperatures this issue becomes ever important. As for me, I take tank and hose sanitation serious and do a couple of things extra. I replaced my cheap, stock hose that is likely to develop leaks in time with a heavy duty dump hose from Rino. After washout of the tanks and hose, I add black tank deodorizer and cap off both ends with the included fittings. No smell with high 90's.

On one end of my sewer hose I have an "el" type fitting that fits into another piece that goes into the sewer. At the other end, is what I believe is called a bayonet fitting. I can understand the cap at the bayonet end. What about the other?
After a gray water wash, I do a bleach and water wash. So far so good.

This is why when on the road dry camping it's nice to pull in to a full service camp ground to dump, and clean out all the tanks at ones leisure.

I also use a flushing fitting that fits right onto the dump tank fitting where you connect your hose. I allows me to back flush both the black tank and the gray tank (as well as the sewer hose) with clean water before I secure everything. I then place deodorant into the black tank and some water so it sloshes around as I'm driving and keeps the interior of the black tank pretty clean. Has worked well.

It's really easy to just rinse the sewer hose immediately after dumping. If you're at a regular dump station, chances are good there's a water connection handy, although it's probably cold water. I use the outside shower on the trailer and rinse with hot water from my tank.
