Thermostat turns on both heater and AC

Hi All!

My thermostat has lost its mind. Any one else?

When we turn on the heater it turns on both the AC and the heater and the heater doesn't blow hot. When we turn it off, the heater stays on for a while. (I think it's just cycling to get the hot air out of the ducts but there is no hot air).

We have tried unplugging the shore power AC and the battery disconnect to see if that would reset it's little brain, but no luck.

We would be grateful for any ideas you have to fix this. It's cold!

A P.S. to my question.

We are full timers so a programmable thermostat would be REALLY nice. Can you use a regular home thermostat to replace the Dometic digital in the Escape (ours is a 2016)? Has anyone made this modification?

Make sure the fan is on auto. Go to the fan selection and hit the plus or minus button until it says auto or AU or something like that. Also make sure your heat and cool setpoints are not close together. Raise the cool setpoint to around 80 or higher while using the heat.

As stated, the fan MUST be set to Auto, not high or low. And if the A/C is coming on, then you are plugged into the grid. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a small ceramic heater. If you are paying for a hookup, why burn your propane. Additionally, a ceramic heater is more quiet than the furnace and unless it is way below freezing, a 1,000 watt ceramic heater will keep the trailer in the 70s.

You guys are my heroes! Yep. I had it set on "Low." Changing to "Auto" fixed it.

As for the ceramic heater, I'm with ya! But we're mooch-docking at my inlaws so I'm trying to go easy on their electricity. :-)

It is all explained in the manuals provided, the digital thermostat is really a lot nicer than the old style bi-metalic thermostat, it makes your mobile havoc operate similarly to those modern systems in homes now. Of course there is always the IPhone APP that can control the unit.....!!

Just a typo, but so appropriate - making mobile HVAC stuff work often seems like havoc.

It's not surprising to find an app for mobile device (such as iPhones and Android phones) to control a thermostat (such as the Nest), but it was surprising to see that with a $35 thermostat. A Nest is about CA$300, although other brands of WiFi-connected thermostats are cheaper. Sure enough, too good to be true: the Bluetooth version of the CT Thermostat is one needed to do this. I haven't found it online, although I did find some references to RVs coming with it as factory equipment.

Does anyone know what the Bluetooth-equipped Dometic CT Thermostat costs?
