Tongue box options

Agreed, having a box on the tongue is a very practical addition. I was wondering if anyone else has decided there must be cheaper alternatives.

I saved a bundle by building my own but clearly that option is not for everyone. So how about it? What other solutions are out there?

Definitely agree a tongue box is handy, don't know what I'd do without one. Not that I'd ever be without one. I even fabricated one for my Scamp 13.

And I definitely agree that there are alternatives to the big bucks for the ETI box. I also wanted a box that was more in scale to the 19 and the ETI box looks too wide to me.

It's certainly well within the range of most DIY'ers to fabricate one. I took advantage of the front slope of the trailer front to gain more interior volume. Not that I pack more stuff in, it just makes it easier to see objects because they're less piled on top of each other.

Very inexpensive truck box options at the depot or lowes. Shouldn't be difficult to mount them, and they run about $280 in aluminum or black.
Nice work on the custom ones above.

Yeah, I've seen the truck boxes used as tongue boxes, but they've never looked quite right to me. I love the custom ones above because they actually 'fit' the style and shape of the trailer. When we first looked at the options sheet, the $700 price tag on the storage box seemed quite high. As we did more research, we soon found out that there were very few viable 'store-bought' alternatives, and most of those were even more money - and not custom fit. Best $700 I ever spent. If I didn't have it, I'd be about designing and building a custom one, as others have.

If you pass on getting the ETI tongue box you get this cool mud skirt.

After tar on the road Alaska, I'd have been happy if it had only been mud.

Oh well, a little Varsol and all is well again.

Was going to say I thought it would be good to have one a little less wide until I saw those leatherette rock guards. Had 'em on the 17; don't miss them at all.

Storage box is a whole lot easier to maintain/refinish that the front end of my 21. I think of it as the sacrificial add-on.
