TV Mount

TV Mounting
I just finished installing the TV mount, and it was an interesting little project. Reace and company couldn’t install the mounting without the TV, as each type of TV requires a slightly different mounting location, and we had opted for a 22” TV (‘cause bigger is better).

The normal mounting is on the edge of the passenger side bulkhead. I made a template of the TV and put it on the mounting so I could check clearances and quickly discovered the TV intruded into the “bedroom entryway” when in its stowed position. A conversation with Reace and a few minutes with a stud finder located another 1” x 2” support in the middle of the bulkhead. The problem with this location was the TV wouldn't quite fit when rotated into the loft for nighttime viewing.

The solution solved two problems. By fastening a piece of 1” x 4” oak to the middle stud with some screws, I had a reinforced mounting block and also moved the mount away from the wall by ¾ inch. It now rotates perfectly into both areas.

I attached the actual mount by drilling three holes completely through the bulkhead, fastening another piece of oak on the other side and bolted the mount in place with #10 stainless steel bolts and lock nuts.

A few minutes work with a hacksaw and a file and the bolts and nuts are as inconspicuous as possible. Deb will undoubtedly hang some decoration there.

I'll post a few sequential images in multiple posts.

I guess that could be true, if you fall asleep immediately afterward

Re: TV Mount

The taxidermist asked me if I wanted a couple of rabbits mounted, and I told him I preferred them just holding hands.

Huh? Isn't that a given.

And GROAN of the taxidermy joke.

Oh, and good job on the mount, you definitely won't be losing your TV.
I got the TV mount from Reace, but have not mounted it yet. I am going to take the TV off when towing, because we would hardly use it anyway. I have not played with the idea of how it will be positioned when not in use, now that you mention it, I will definitely take that into consideration.

Re: TV Mount

I spent a year pondering what to do my my TV mount and in the end, I gave it away.

TV goes in the cupboard, if we take it with us, and sits on a counter when wanted, which isn't often.

I got a 7" DVD player, and it too resides in a closet, along with the DVDs that I intended to watch, but never got around to.

The Sirius satellite radio gets a lot of use, but I gave up on mounting it since it gets moved around so much ( outside / inside / next to bed / etc. ).

Re: TV Mount

I plan on stowing the TV while traveling. We've been known to bring along a good horror movie to watch right before we go out for a midnight hike; it adds a bit of spice to the trek.

p.s.: the dogs get to wear these:

while hiking...I can't tell you how many times I've nearly tripped over our black dog, Kaya

Re: TV Mount

I just take the TV off the mount and lay it up on the bed (toward the front, or into the space next to the mattress). Bumping along the roadway would put a significant stress on the arm and mounting. No matter how well it is mounted!
Our grandkids just LOVE to crawl up onto the bed with us and watch a movie when we are out camping!

Re: TV Mount

Hi: All...I think I already posted these pic's. of the TV bracket slide lock. Unlike Humpty ours stays up on the wall and in 1000s of miles of tugging hasn't fallen yet!!! I know there's always a first for everything...BUT.
