Twin Beds in 5.0 TA

We ordered our 5.0 TA with twin beds. When I was at Escape in November I measured the width of the bunk area to be 83". With two 36" beds that would leave a centre aisle width of 11".

Yesterday Melissa contacted us to advise that the new bed width is 30". That means that we now have 23" to allocate to the side of the beds and the centre aisle.

We're OK with the new width, easier to get sheets.

It'll keep them away from the side walls which will help with condensation.

Remember too that the walls of the loft taper down towards the front, about 3" on each side if I remember correct.

What about the little cubbies? Are you deleting them?

I remember when the idea of twins was talked about before that Escape would eliminate those. We find they are mostly useless anyway.

One thing I would miss by having twins is the storage space along the sides of the beds, where my guitar and my wife's crafting supplies go, along with a couple other wee things.

Are the cubbies easy to remove? Has anyone removed them? We'd like the space back.

I thought they where structural, but even if they where that could be done differently.

I would imagine they would come out with little trouble. I do wonder what would be left behind damage wise from the mounting of these units. I had thought to get some headliner to do a cover like on the rear corners in the dinette to cover the seams and wires. My other thought was to build something more practical in the stead, which would be better, but I would need to find the time.

Cliff, I doubt very much they are structural. After nailing one of those corners with my cargo trailer enough to lift the front well off the ground, and only getting a minor fixable ding, I would say it is plenty strong.

Any wires running behind the cubbies? And the cubbies can cover a multitude of 'sins' because of the vinyl trying to match up in the corner. Before I took out the cubbies, I'd want to figure out how to cover up whatever is going on in the corners. YMMV

The cubbies are deleted with the twin bed option.

Hadn't thought about condensation with the mattress against the wall. The narrower mattress will allow for space there.

Our previous RV was a Roadtrek van. We usually had the bed configured as a king size. When configured as Twins the mattress width was 28" width. That was adequate except that we felt jammed up against the wall on one side. Just before we sold the van I was flipping through the manual. It suggested moving the mattress a few inches from the wall to allow more room. Duh!

Mswan, Might I suggest an IKEA Lonset slatted bed base under your mattress? I highly recommend them
