upper door not staying closed

the small hatch above the closet on our E21 doesn't stay closed... its got one of those gas lift spring things, and a spring latch like the other top opening upper level hatch doors, but this one takes more force to close than to open... you barely touch it, and the spring latch pops open.

that particular cabinet, the floor of the cabinet is flush with the bottom of the opening, so whatever you put up there will have a strong tendancy to slide out and push the door open, inevitably the contents of that shelf end up on the floor.

any suggestions for a better closure mechanism? maybe a magnetic catch?

I would just replace the closers John. Some of them have been defective on occasion.

and install one of the extended refrigerator bars in the closet, it should keep things inside.

Reace told me the reason they didn't install the same springy thing on the other overhead doors is that it was not available that short - I'm guessing you bought yours used as I have the same year & model so it may be a PO mod. I installed a marine spring lid/hatch support that works excellent. Get the shortest one. You will need to shim it out from the framing side; think I used a 3/4 inch thick piece of wood. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/t-h-m...h-Results-Test
