If the gun is only being used to spray resin the layup is spec'd as certain weights of whatever glass material is being used.

Straight chopper gun does require some experience to put down a defined amount of material but it's pretty easy to do. I don't think the Escapes are straight chopped strand. Love the chopper gun, one squeeze on the trigger sends out air only. Do that and it's amazing how fast the rest of the crew gets out of your way.

Ron, thanks for the explanations on chopper guns, etc. I've done the old manual layup of both the woven and random strand mat and painting on resin method (with some horrible memories attached -just the smell of resin makes me start to itch....) but have never used one of the guns.

Yeah, this input Ron. My glassing to is limited to layups like Eric has done.

I am curious to chat with Reace about this more too.

Missed this the first time through. But, that I did. Installed back as far as possible in the galley, and will mostly be used with a spout for kitchen use. A short distance to the rear if I wanted to wash myself up too.

In my modifying the cabinetry to maximize space I realized I would need to move a couple holes Escape made for a gas line and the refrigerator drain. The fridge drain hole can be clearly seen, so I endeavoured to measure up the layout there.

I got a total thickness near 13/16". This includes from the top down, 1/16" of vinyl flooring, 1/2" of plywood, and the remaining 1/4" was a thin layer of resin on a fairly thick fibreglass shell. The purpose of the resin is to level the rough surface of the shell while providing bonding for the plywood.

In drilling my hole through the floor with a sharp 3/4" space bit, it chewed through the top like butter, but once it hit the resin and fibreglass, it went slow, kinda grinding its way through. Very tough stuff.
