Water heater questions.

We have a 2017 Escape 19 with the 2 way water heater. I get hot water on gas, but not electric. Apparently I burned out the water heater element. I've found dozens of You Tube videos on how to replace the element, and I can handle it going forward, but I 'd like to tap the brain trust of other Escape owners.

1. Can you think of anything else that could have caused the problem.

2. By process of elimination and guesswork, the water heater is EITHER a Suburban SW6DM or SW6DEM. Do you know which it is?

3. What heater element do you recommend?

4. Does it drive you wacky when the assembly is called a Hot Water Heater?
A friend of mine pointed out that it's a cold water heater.

Thanks, ya'll!

SW6DEM.
I turned on the electric element thinking the heater is full...WRONG!!! The element came out in two pieces!!!

I had same issue with my previous 17b and replaced element-no fix. I’d recommend putting multimeter on the leads and verify when you flip the switch there is power there before ordering the elemnt.
Mine wasn’t simple fuses, so finally narrowed it down to the switch, gave up and just used propane.
Hopefully yours is simply the element, but worth it to make sure before laying out $$.

Not trying to be a wise guy here but are you sure your exterior switch is flipped to “on” and are all of your breakers “on” ( all other electrical stuff working?) and you’re plugged in to AC voltage.
I am guilty of overlooking the obvious.at times.

There’s a difference between wise and wise guy. If retired goverernment employees are setting around and I’m there we are cracking wise. If sage advice is needed and I’m sober then I’m wise. If a Group of Iowa farmers are setting around in the basement complaining about commodity prices where are they? A. In a whine cellar. Rimshot please.

Iowa Dave always so full of wisdom . Yes I would check that one switch just to be sure it is turned on, both Bill and Dave showed me that at Wild Frontier recently and not sure I would have noticed it was there.

Great to see another Escape is so close, maybe we can have a GA rally sometime.

I hope you get it figured out.

Safe and fun travels to all,

Steve

The electric and propane heating controls usually use separate thermostatic control switches, so a failed switch (or just a bad connection) could affect electric and not propane operation. I would confirm that the element is getting power before replacing it.

Thanks to all for your input. I reviewed the switches that could be off and I was all good. I didn't think to put the multi meter on the element to make sure it's getting power. Thanks to all!

Steve,
The folks attending the Wild Frontier Rally solved my lack of hot water problems also.
What a great group they were! ☺
