Hmm, that's been a good pump for me on two recent Scamp remodels, but it hasn't been available that long. I've never had to consider carrying a spare $90 pump, because in my experience to date, that hasn't ever been an unreliable component. When I do a remodel, I normally replace the water pump as a preventative, but those pumps are usually 10-20 years old and most are still running.

Mine is fine after seven years, but, I only turn it on when I'm going to run water and turn it off when I'm done.
The problem my pump had was allowing "city water" to leach into the fresh water tank. As I mentioned this wasn't discovered for the first 8 months because I never hooked up, always used water from the fresh water tank.

1st one I have ever had fail in 5 campers over 20+ years. On mine the pump section has failed. Motor still runs but pump will not move any water even with discharge line off and a hose hooked to the suction side full of water and holding it above the pump so that pump is primed. It worked a few weeks back but now when its running it is very quiet and you can tell its not under any load and does not have its usual load vibrating sound. I only turn ours on when we need it too so that's not the cause of the failure.

Oh well, probably just made in China like most things these days.

Can't wait to open up and see what I see . I will put this together and can have a spare . Pretty sad . Our pump was doing exactly what your's is doing . Pat

In addition to a spare pump, what tools are required to replace it?

It is just a matter of hooking up your wires , removing 4 screws with Robertson screw driver , the 2 water lines just screw on finger tight , put your filter back on pump too . A little Teflon tape on one end . The biggest problem is where it is , not much room , in my case under bed in corner , laying on your side , that hurts a lot . So I cut and hinged the wood platform for my bed , to work up top for next time . I do not have mattress anymore , so I can get that out of the way easy . Latex . Pat

Poked my head in the hatch; pump under bed by water heater in a 21. the lines look like hand tightened plastic fittings; sort of like you see to hold a toilet seat down. The Robertson bit size is #2- same as the door hinges.

China, Mexico, Taiwan ...
I'm trying to find wheel bearings right now made in the USA. Tough job!

I will take ours apart too once removed and see what's up but I'm sure the pump is shot. I will probably rebuild it for a spare.

Try Googling "Virtual wheel bearings".

Replaced ours today and it took right off and sounds better than the old one ever did. Also I like the new style filter because you can see in it without taking it apart.

The old flat filter screen cut the top on one side and leaked air . The dome lid is a better design to not cut the lid . Pat

Replaced the pump and now all is well. We were unsure what the problem was and wondered if there was a slight air leak in the system because the pump sounded like it was working . Turns out, it failed.

Now on to San Diego for a visit with family.
