Weights for 2008 5.0 Escape + 2011 Frontier
We just took our trailer and tow to a commercial CAT Scale and got it weighed. Someone on the forum asked us for this shortly after we brought our trailer home in July but I can't remember who it was so here it is and hopefully they will see this post!
We have a 2008 5.0 Escape w 2 6v batteries, 2 propane tanks.
Tow is a 2011 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X, crew cab, short bed (5').
We went to a 3 weight scale and got 2 weights..one with the tow and trailer and one with just the tow vehicle.
All 3 tanks were empty as was the hot water heater. No food or clothes in the trailer. We estimate maybe 100 lbs of gear in the trailer (including a microwave & the screen room)
The weights were as follows:
Trailer Axle: 2620
Tongue Weight: 720
Total Trailer Weight: 3340
Frontier Total Weight (w/o trailer or people): 4860
The Escape brochure gives the 'dry weight' of the trailer at 2620 lbs, the 'dry hitch' at 480 and the 'dry axle' at 2140.... but we don't know what 'dry' includes or does not include....

The towing capacity for a 2011 Frontier 4x4 is 6200 lbs. I have the same exact truck as Fran and Dave.

looks like 1390 pounds, less 720 leaves you 670 for passengers and fuel, after fuel around 500# for 4 passengers. You may be at your max with that set up or over if you carry 4 adults.

Carrying capacity is 1116 lbs, manual trans, crew cab, 4x4. It increases to 1250 for auto transmission. Payload does depend on the model.

So you may be overloaded with your set up? After fuel only leaves you enough for one adult and one child passengers!

Our Frontier is an automatic. Our gas tank was full when it was weighed. We never tow with more than the driver and 1 passenger.
According to our owner's manual, for our model (Crew Cab 4wd), the Max Towing Capacity is 6100lbs
Max Tongue Load is 610 lbs - of course that assumes a bumper tow, not fifth wheel.
Max Gross Combined Weight 11,135.
The weights from the manual include a driver.
How are you coming up with a carrying capacity for the tow vehicle?

Where did you find or how did you calculate the 1390 lb figure?

Seems like we should plan to load anything additional toward the back of the trailer to lighten the tongue weight a little. They grey and fresh water tanks would put weight back there...

The payload or carrying capacity of a pickup truck would not normally need to account for fuel. The limit for carrying capacity is GCWR minus curb weight... but curb weight already includes the fuel.
What were the loaded (with trailer) truck axle weights? The total would be the 4860 lb truck weight, plus the 720 lb pin weight, plus the passengers and cargo. Each axle needs to be no more than the GAWR, and the total needs to be no more than GVWR.
The GAWR (front and rear) and GVWR should be on a sticker on the driver's door edge or door jamb.

The label on the door jamb states:
GVWR 5600
GAWR FR 3296
GAWR RR 3331
Combination of Occupants & Cargo 937
The scale weights on a 3 scale system were:
First weigh was truck and trailer.
Second weigh was just the truck, no trailer.
First Weigh (Scales 1,2,3, Total) Truck plus trailer
2480 3100 2620 Total 8200
Second Weigh (Scales 1,2, Total) Just the truck
2520 2340 Total 4860

the number that stands out to me is the #937 number, eliminating 760 of trailer leaves you a very small couple !!

Yeah, it seems unusually low for a pickup truck with Bilstein shocks, etc...guess we'll have to go on a diet....
Seems there are a number of Escape 5.0's being towed by Frontiers...did anyone else do the numbers?

This would mean that most mid sized pickup trucks should not be used to tow the 5, although they seem fine to tow the 19 or 21. I know tow ratings are different than payload ratings, something does not sound right.

It sounds like mainly a tongue/hitch weight issue - which becomes a tow vehicle (GVWR) total weight problem. If you can lessen the hitch weight everything is within limits.
Fifth wheel units typically have much higher hitch weights than "bumper pulls" so 19s and 21s should be fine.
BUT I tend to be conservative, I prefer a 20% margin. I prefer to not be just within the limits. It is really a risk management question - how much margin is there when something goes wrong? (Everyone has to answer that for themself - there isn't really a right/wrong answer.)
