Thanks for the photo. One difference between that switch and the type that I have is that my terminals are covered by a back plate. I tend to be on the cautious side with battery amperage. I don't like exposed terminals in a space that I use for other things. For things like the cigarette lighter, also with exposed terminals in a locker, I made a cover to prevent accidentally touching the terminals with metal objects. Arcs n' sparks my be exciting to see but not so much if it happens to you. Don't ask me how I know.

Good point. Accidentally shorted the terminals on the 12V outlet that resides in the storage space below the refrigerator. Hit them with a pot I think. Now it has a cover.

Your Welcome Ron . We tend to not put much in there because of the electrical stuff . But I may err of the side of caution and cover . On the other side , yup first mod I did was cover the 12 volt in storage under dinette . Really didn't like the looks of that . Got my ladder yesterday would you believe at Costco . Now going to do fan in bath . Would you believe daytime temps went from rain , 50's F to 90's F and sun . So going to get to the fan mod .

The problem for me is I changed the porch light & awning strip light to 3 way switches so I could turn them off or on from inside or out. That means on can be in either direction.

I bet you could tell by looking at the light whether it was off of one though.

I just had a look at my disconnect switch. Not all that beefy looking from behind, but has anyone had one fail? Pretty straight forward labelling too. It is so tight in the corner of would be almost impossible to accidentally hit it. The one in my 19 was more in the open.

Looks like the labeling has been vastly improved compared to the OP's photo.

It definitely is. The funny thing is, that when I saw it my immediate response was that I would want to remove it. I know what it is for and when to use it, and I am also pretty good at knowing how to turn a switch on and off. Not keen on all that not so pretty labelling. It is not so terribly obvious though, tucked away in the corner like that.

As a thought, if anyone is into having the labelling, I wonder if a nice note to Escape might get some sent their way.

My first thought upon seeing this, too. Just goes to show you that you can't please everyone all the time and that no good deed goes unappreciated.

You could cover it with "oak-look" wallpaper.

Ours had the same labeling but I removed it.

Man, I never knew so many folks had label aversion.

When I install switches I don't feel that I've finished the job until it's labeled.

Maybe when I get to your age I will need more labels too, Ron.

Don't get me wrong, labels have there place. Like those on beer bottles.

If we're counting outside stuff, then throw in the power jack, too. It also continues to operate when the storage switch in question is turned OFF.

Reducing wear on battery

If camping for an extended period of time (let's say over 2 wks), where electricity is available, would disconnecting the battery reduce the wear on the battery?

I'm asking because; when I "store" my trailer in my driveway, I plug it into a 30amp supply and disconnect the battery. Then once a month I connect the battery for a day.

The converter in the trailer will not hurt the battery, I'm plugged in 24/7 when at home, just check the water levels once a year.

There is no need to do this, Rick. The battery is just on a float charge which maintains it at peak performance when idling, not being used.

Like Jim's trailer, , our trailer is plugged in whenever it's home and in the building. I Check the battery water in the spring and fall and probably once in the summer. Dual sixes are always at the ready.
