Hi: kendo... I got a new torque wrench and a 21mm socket to fit our 5.0TA. That should do it!!! Alf

1/2"-20 is the nearly universal thread for wheel studs in this capacity range of trailer axles. That's 1/2" diameter, 20 threads per inch.
The correct wrench size for nuts with this thread would typically be 13/16", but a 21 mm socket usually fits adequately.
But of course, Escape can confirm or correct this.

I just have to know why you need the thread count?
You're not planning on making or providing your own are you?

If you use different wheels (a very common thing for any vehicle), the stud diameter and length need to be compatible. Some wheels require different nuts - for instance many Toyota vehicles use a different seat style for aluminum alloy and steel wheels - and to get the right nuts one would need to know the thread pitch. Those are just comments, not necessarily applicable to this question.
I'm curious too..

Coarse thread for construction projects, finer for wheel nuts. Used to have a question on my maintenance person test for the coarse. 27/64 hole for the 1/2 inch tap. If the applicant did not know that, they went in the Second choice pile. If they listed about 5 or 6 bolt diameters and drill sizes in the margin, I gave them extra credit and tried to hire them.

Remember the 50s GM cars? Some had stud bolts and some were left hand thread. Always liked the Buick woody wagons.

13/16" is the correct wheel lug nut socket size.. And yes, some chrysler vehicles had left hand rotation wheel studs on the left side of the vehicle.

And, voting won't change anything.
You're still stuck with 13/16".

I'm not looking to pass any tests but have always wondered - WHY. Is there some obvious advantage to one over the other in different applications that I am not seeing?
Curious...

Thanks! I'll not only try to remember what I read, but also why I am trying to remember it in the first place.

... and it still doesn't answer the original question, although a 13/16" hex implies a 1/2" thread, and so implies a partial answer.
Fortunately, I don't think any Escape has left-hand threads on the driver's side wheel studs, or any other obscure configuration.

Sure... but there are sometimes multiple choices, not just two. M12 (12 mm diameter) wheel studs and bolts come in 1.25, 1.5, and 1.75 mm thread pitches, depending on brand and model of vehicle. All of the Toyota, Datsun (Nissan), Honda, Mazda, and Ford light vehicles (meaning not the motorhome) that we have owned have had M12 studs, but in two different threads (1.25 and 1.5) and two hex (socket) sizes - 19 mm and 21 mm.
It's worth checking to be sure.
