window coverings

This item may be of interest to those of you who have new Escapes coming into production. We just happened to learn that upcoming Escapes (at least the 19s) will routinely have brown blinds instead of the off-white color. It was one of those topics that we couldn't have thought to ask about, but Tammy happened to mention in passing. Since brown would clash with our custom fabrics and formica, we have asked to stick with the off-white instead. --Liz

Re: window coverings

I heard there were electrical problems at the factory...they had a brown-out.

I've discovered our new typist was pretty computer illiterate...she had white-out all over her computer screen

Is it true Reece asked Tammy how to make a venetian blind and she answered "Poke him in the eye!" ?

Re: window coverings

When we were getting towards the end of our build, I noticed the browner blinds going in another trailer. When I asked Tammy about them, she said that was the color the new Escapes would have in them - same quality just a different color. I went inside the trailer to get a better look. I would say the new color is closer to the "oak" tones of the cabinetry and they do cut down the outside light slightly better than the off-white blinds. The color is quite pleasant and looks nice but in my case I requested the off-white instead since they still had stock. The brown didn't really go with my color scheme and to my designer mind, the darker ones visually closed in the trailer more - the off-white created a feeling of more space. Saying all that, the darker tone is definitely a warmer color so it may feel more cozy to many. Lastly, when the "browner blinds" were in the down position, the darker color was more noticeable to me from the outside and I didn't like the look of the brown tones with my grey decals. Talk about anal,eh?

AND, aren't we glad we don't all like the same thing? What a "vanilla" world it would be....

BTW: Vanilla is my favorite flavor!

I like your taste. With brown blinds you would have lost some of the clean simplicity that makes your Escape so appealing! Imagine many rectangular patches of brown (the brown blinds) interrupting/cluttering the flow of the off-white walls. To my eye, you made a great decision on blind color. --Liz

Re: window coverings

As a further note, the blind's head rail appears large enough that it would be easy to attach industrial strength Velcro to it to mount a blackout panel for those requiring more darkness to sleep or even a decorative valance if that's your style. Fabric would look nice but for the "sewing challenged" - like me - I think it would be easy enough to make straight panels from those inexpensive vinyl roller shades - just disconnect them from the roller and cut out the size and shape you need.

Can someone tell me if white blinds are still an option? It's Sunday or I'd call Escape.

Chalk me up for being happy with the brown-ish blinds in my new 19. They work better keeping the room darker when boondocking at a well lit truck stop. Think they look great because they harmonize with the wood and my fabric of choice, and having (off) white walls is just exactly enough white for me.

When my trailer was built last April, white blinds were not available. I knew that before they started to build mine so my color choices took the darker ones into account; I am pleased with the result.

Anyone have photos of the new blinds?

It is amazing Karen how your countertop accents the Escapes' stock floor, cushions and blinds, they all come together with that selection, really nice.

On our 5.0 we used curtains at the foot of the bed to help block light (also reflectix in the emergency hatch at night and behind the loft windows).
We also found that there was lots of cold (and heat) radiating through the door so we put up a relatively thin thermal drape across the door using a small shower curtain rod. It does a really nice job for both heat and cold and is easy to push out of the way or pull over the door...takes up only an inch or two when retracted. (It is not fully retracted in the photo.)
With those two things we don't find any need to further darken the windows at the dinette and kitchen. We have the off white pleated shades and really like them.
