Winter is coming

They are calling for record breaking cold tonite, below freezing here in central Pennsylvania. I figure if there is still baseball on tv it can not be too bad. Anyway I'm not ready to winterize as we still have trips planned this month and next with Thanksgiving being a camping event up by Rochester, New York. So I got out my little 400 watt heater which I use when we have hookups (I have electric here at home) and my dehumidifier which is only 70 watts but it also puts out some heat and plugged them inside Quahog. I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer in the house with the remote in the trailer. I can monitor the temperature inside. Last night it was 40 outside and 58 inside Quahog. I got the little oil filled unit for under the dinette here http://www.air-n-water.com/product/ah-400.html, and the dehumidifier from amazon here http://www.amazon.com/Davis-Instrume...gy_auto_img_y.
I leave the heater under dinette and the other one on top of stove cover. I'm hoping for 15-20 degree differential using these small units.

Re: Winter is coming

Its funny Jim on the coast you need dehumidifiers and here in the prairies we all have humidifiers becuse it is too dry. Just funny how different regions have different issues.

Jim, you may not be so eager to trade when it is -35°C here in northern Alberta and the wind is howling.

Re: Winter is coming

Yes, I hear you.
As I look out at the Escape, I think how nice and sleek it would look without that a/c sitting on the top. Real nice. But then I remember trying to sleep in 80% humidity and 80 degree nights, like a steam bath. The a/c, although it looks clunky and you only use it 2 months out of the year, is still a "gotta have item" here on the east coast.

Re: Winter is coming

It could be worse Jim you could have one of those big rock star buses with three gigantic a/c units on the roof. At least ours are as low profile as they get.
we were in montana this summer and it was 38 C and not much cooler at night. the ac unit could have been three feet high and I would still have loved it that night.

As once told by a thermodynamics instructor, "There is no such thing as cold, just an absence of heat".

Now that Thanksgiving weekend has passed, I will be winterizing my trailer and putting it up for the winter on Sunday.

Re: Winter is coming

Thanksgiving hasn't made it this far south yet. We are still sleeping under AC with highs in the upper 80's lows to 75 in central Texas. But I know some day soon we'll cool down and get frisky. For us...camping season is just getting started. We attended a rally in east Texas last weekend with 80 fg trailers. It was enjoyable hanging out with other owners and talking mods, travel, and sharing meals.

Re: Winter is coming

Maybe we can find the exact central part of the lower 48 states, somewhere near Lebanon, Kansas and plan a US Escape rally for all Escape owners in the lower 48's as well as any other Escape owner from our northern neighbor, Canada. I estimate a 24 hour drive from anywhere in US would get your there. Maybe next year or the the following we can have a US Escape rally. Let's give it some thought and maybe start another thread sometime.
