Hi - I just picked up a door for mounting here as a footlocker access in my 19. what are the main benefits for mounting it opening down like this? Is it done because of the way the locker is built or does it provide some advantage over opening right to left?

I also see you have an elevated floor. What is the thinking with this? I haven't spent a lot of time here in the dinette is it too tall?

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Matt,

Egad, I just saw this! With Private Messages, the Forum sends notifications. Apparently, with comments to photos, there are no notifications. My apologies for the late response.

So here are some quick answers to your questions. Mounting the door on the curbside dinette storage in this way [opening downward] created some questions for my wife and me. But, after simply "playing" with the concept for a while, this mounting method made sense. If the door opened with the hinges facing inward, we thought it would be hard to access the contents from the inside. If the door opened with the hinges facing curbside, we thought it would be hard to access the contents from the outside. Then, the question became should the door open from the top or the bottom? We use that cabinet mostly for boots and shoes. So the final analysis became ease of access for those items. Therefore, we had the door hinged at the bottom.

We have the elevated floor because the distance between the cushions and the front window is greater in the 19 than in the 17. Our previous Escape, a 17, has the dinette in the rear. Sitting at the dinette provides a panoramic view out those windows. However, in the 19 the floor is not the same distance from the windows. We had ETI raise the dinette in the maximum amount [4 inches]. That extra distance helps a lot.

    Does that help, Matt?

Again, sorry for the delay in answering your questions. Feel free to fire away with more. You'll find our Escape group extraordinarily willing to answer questions. We are all very pleased and proud of our trailers.

    Klaus
