Mark,
When ETI mailed us the final paperwork, I went down to the DMV and registered the trailer as if we already had it. I didn't say that we had it; I just said I wanted to register my trailer and then let them assume that we already had it at home. The individual who was helping us was new and hadn't done a trailer registration before and that might have worked in our favor. They also calculated the tax on the basis of Canadian dollars (since that is what ETI uses on their paperwork) and I didn't volunteer that they should have converted it to US dollars. Saved us a few bucks. In case that approach didn't work, I had purchased a "Maryland" vanity plate online that I was going to use on the trailer while traveling home. Never needed it but it was our backup plan. Feel free to PM me if you have additional questions. Good luck.
Glenn
