Can always order a new latch, would suspect you could see the plastic worn down though.

It's been like this from day 1

My screen door closes around the metal post and if I push it off center when closing the screen the latch will not close. There is also a piece of plastic with a screw on it on the post that the latch closes over, if it it is too high the latch won't close.

Have you tried attaching handles on the screen door? Got the ideas from someone on here and it really helps. Just plain white arched plastic handles. One above the latch on one side and below the latch on the other side. Watch where you place your screws so you don't interfere with the latch. Gives you much more control.

A number of people have done this mod. Here's one example, direct link: http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f9....html#post3864

I would suggest a faulty latch, as in over 6 years ours worked just fine, and we never had to adjust or add any additional handles, and ours worked fine. We did have a few other issues, like putting back it the latch and adjusting tension, but never anything with the latch.

You might try aligning your hand with the latch when closing. My wife always has trouble with the latch but she places her hand below the latch. I never have issues, but my hand is at the latch height when I close the screen door.

I should have stated that I only touch the door frame, not the latch. Aligning my hand at the latch height keeps the screen door square with the stationary latch. No mods necessary!

My 2008 17b has the 'bi-fold' style screen door.
