1500 Silverado with max tow package and 21 Escape...good match?

I am contemplating a 21 vs. a 19, and the tow vehicle will probably be the deciding factor, if need be.
I have a 5.3 L V-8 Silverado with 3.42 axel ratio, that supposedly has a 10,700 tow capacity, which I think is nonsense, and a 1500 cargo capacity.
Sometimes my husband joins me, but normally it's just me and the 3 dogs and my truck bed is basically empty.
I am driving to Florida every fall now, and returning in the spring, so my 17 ft Casita will not be enough room for such a lengthy trip. A 19 would be, a 21 even more so, I presume.
I know there is an Escape owner who tows a 19 with a Silverado, but thus far, have not seen a 21 with this combo..
There are several owners who tow a 21 with TV's in the 5,000-6,500 range, but I live in the mountainous west and would never consider that....but how abt 9,000 to be conservative? The Silverado tows my 3500 lb Casita like it's not even there.

Your truck as you describe it will easily tow either a 21 or a 19. You can expect a 19 to run around 4000 lbs loaded and under tow, and a 21 to run about 300 lbs more than that. Of course that can vary depending on your options.

Instead of the truck, I'd focus on which trailer meets your needs. I recommend contacting Escape and they will put you in touch with owners of either model in your area. Spend some time inside both of them and it will be a much easier decision.

Escape has sent names for me to follow up on, and I can check out a 21 in Yakima and a brand new 19 in Whitebird.
There's pros and cons to both I already know, done extensive reading on the subject...just so I can tow either with confidence.

Thanks...my payload capacity is 1800, not 1500 as I initially wrote, still not very much..but I pack light.
I'm leaning toward the classic 21 and will have to see what becomes available this fall, or perhaps next spring in Florida. It's difficult to justify the expense going from a 17 to a 19, but going to a 21...that will be such a jump for me.
I can make one trip in my 17 to Florida, and that will probably be my limit.

Up I have the same truck as you but a 4x4 it has towed everything I have with ease even my tractor down to fort hood area n back had to keep looking back to see if it was still there lol you will enjoy towing your escape with it so sit back drive n enjoy

1,800 lbs of payload for a 1/2 ton is actually quite generous, and if you indeed travel light neither the 19 nor 21 will push your payload. Definitely, the deciding factor for you would be the trailer you're most comfortable towing, managing, and living in. We went with the 19 for a number of reasons, but one was ease of towing on narrow dirt roads. The permanent queen bed in the back was one of the others. The most compelling reason, however, was it's just a great fit for our TV, which is a pickup with 1,390 lbs of payload. Even with a canopy on the truck, we should be able to stay well within that.

I couldn’t agree with you more. My truck was ordered to tow a Casita but there was plenty of capacity left when we switched to an Escape. My truck has the 3.73 rear end. Loren

As Katherine points out, 1800 lbs of payload is actually pretty decent as far as pickups go. For example, my 2018 F150 Lariat is around 1700 lbs due to the way I equipped it.

I chuckle when I hear the term "half ton" or "3/4 ton" or "1 ton" truck nowadays. That used to be the case but it hasn't been for a long time. Your average "half ton" truck nowadays has more like a ton of payload capacity. Another example: an F150, properly equipped can have up to 3270 lbs of payload capacity. But, they don't call it a one and a half ton.

You can also fit 6 people in the front of a PU truck now, albeit snugly. No such thing when trucks were really 1/2, 3/4. or ton.

We can do 5 people, but it's a good point. If they're all on the chubby side like me, that's 1000 lbs right there.

I love my 2013 Silverado...its also a 4x4.
Easy to climb into as a female, with large windows and fold down seats for the dogs.
Nice to know I can pull a tractor if the need arises, lol.

You're the prospective owner in Whitebird, correct?
I am planning on seeing your trailer in September whenever you have time. I like the 19 for every reason you described, except the permanent bed as a necessity, since I will often be traveling solo. I do like the smaller footprint of the 19.

I know there are many more 19's for sale than 21's, and I may end up with a 19, especially if I step into yours and say...this is big enough.
